Couldn't find a similar thread with the search feature, nor the first five pages of topics here in Living Room, so I decided to make a new thread. Here goes! :) (oh, theres's another thread alright, but not about physical desktop).

desk-above.jpgShow us your (physical) desktop
Two 17" TFTs running 1280x1024 - an acer al1722 and an al1715. The thing in the back is a

Ti-83 calculator, 18-in-1 card reader and 3-port USB hub, 80gig seagate, icybox usb2/firewire enclosure with 120gig disk, K750i cellphone ontop of a VIM "cheat sheet", a box of CD-Rs and a box of DVD-Rs.

On top of the workstation to the left is a (defunct :( ) netgear wlan access point, and ontop of the testbox on thje right is a ZyXEL ADSL modem/router and an 8port 100mbit switch.

desk-below.jpgShow us your (physical) desktop
The machines... ASUS A8N SLI Premium (for stability & passively cooled chipset, not for SLI), AMD64x2 4400/2.21GHz, 4x512MB Corsair ram, Plextor PX-716A DVD burner, liteon SHD-16P1S DVD reader, 2x160gb maxtor sata in raid/mirror + a 80gig maxtor ide for "scratch" use, GeForce6600/256 PCI-e.

The test-machine is a P2-MMX@350MHz with 64 megs of ram, usually a voodoo3 PCI (but atm "whatever" I had lying around), Intel eepro 100 (with flashable rom!), a promise fasttrack tx133 to support large drives, and two drive bays. Machine is pretty defunct at the moment, though :(

The old one...on a set of 2 drawer filing cabinets, with a table top ironing board across an open drawer. (hey...it works pretty good as a desk)

WOW! You have some cluttered desks around here. The most intriguing is mouser's one. So clean, both the computer and the desk... for a genious coder I was expecting something along the Enterprise and the Millennium Falcom combined ;D. And a round desk! Does it feel that comfortable? I always thought that round tables were a pain to use with computers...

Sorry I can't show you mine, but unfortunately I don't have a digital camera at hand (or a good mobile phone)...

Well... I don't have a decent camera. But i do have my crappy phone.

Here are some images:

My main desk, where i only have the essential stuff: computer, second monitor, keyboard and mouse, some paper for school work, my GTD (non-patented) system, some writing material, the school timetable and a clock. (i also have a cool picture of me in disneyland, on the second monitor. that's not essential, but it's pretty cool :P)
Imagem(46).jpgShow us your (physical) desktop

My small table, where i dump stuff that i don't feel like organizing, and the stuff i grab when i leave home (keys, cell phone, school stuff, etc).
Imagem(47).jpgShow us your (physical) desktop

My second desk, where, right now, i only have blank paper sheets and some important documents at the bottom, and on top of it, the shelves where i put the daily annotations i take in class. (yep, i feel pretty good with myself knowing that i own an almost empty desk :P)
Imagem(48).jpgShow us your (physical) desktop

Sorry for the bad pictures but.. they're better than nothing, right? :P

hehe, good to see where gridmove and dialogmove were created, jgpaiva. i like your emtpy shelves, very zen like.

so far, i have to agree that mouser's desk looks the most inviting to sit at (maybe it's just the lighting scheme in the photo). i'm wondering if being messy leads to distraction - and procrastination. hey, where did you get that cool wallpaper from - i'd sure like to have something like that  ;)

i think i'm going to put 'create new working environment' down on my 'will-do' list. tidy desk, tidy brain, tidy life, nirvana.

It's interesting to see that some of you have very poor arm support! - ideally you should be able to rest your forearm on your table while typing, to avoid too much strain. I know it certainly matters to me, with all those hours I spend (or at least, used to spend) in front of the computer :-[

That's true, it's one of the things that most worries me. With my previous chair, i had several problems with that, my wrist was aching lots of times. But now, i have arm support on my chair! :D

Here the home system.

19092006(001).jpgShow us your (physical) desktop

On the left is the main PC and on the right is the file server. Can't remember the specs of the main PC. The server is a P4 2.4Ghz and 512 ram.

This however is my alter

19092006.jpgShow us your (physical) desktop

Its a reasonably decent Dual Core Athlon x64 3800, with 1Gb ram and Radeon X800 PIC Express graphics card. Not top of the range but it serves my purposes with having cost an arm and a leg. The monitor on the left is a Philips and has a really annoy in flicker problem if you move dark windows around the screen, Or if you scroll text :( . The one on the right is a Sony with X-black and really is my pride and joy, have never regretted buying it.

It's interesting to see how many other dual screen setups we have here, I don't think I could go back to living without it.

my chair is horrible, and i've been on the hunt for a proper chair for a while, but haven't found an acceptable one in my price range.

I'm very proud i finally managed to find the right chair, it was definitelly a huge difference in comfort. I think it's a good investiment since i spend almost my whole day sitting on it. My last one caused me both back and wrist problems. Remember: health doesn't have a price ;)

Eóin: I used to have one of the same casings as you, the purple on on the right in your first pic, for housing my Athlon700. Ever thought the reset/powerbutton/led thing looks like a demon head? :) Oh, and I had the same speakers as the ones in your second pic.

Funny I never made the connection with it looking like a Devil head. One thing about that I really disliked was that if you have the box on the floor the power button is just low enough that you can easily clip it with a chair wheel or your foot shutting the pc down. That said at least it wasn't the reset button you could accidently hit, that could really mess things up.

I have a decent chair, with good arm support. Unfortunately, the arm support is not exactly flexible and I can't sit in relaxing position when I'm doing something trivial (like posting this text ;D). I've got to change the desk to something bigger to better accommodate the computer. I also thought about the two monitor system. Does it really make a difference?

Oh yes!

I'd much rather have two monitors than one big. Things like maximizing your IDE on one monitor, and having other stuff (instant messaging, programming reference, ...) on the second is invaluable. It's also pretty nice when gaming, I can have fullscreen game on main monitor, and IM on the other.

agreed, two monitors really does make a difference.  it lets you multitask in a nice way; maximized apps stay on their current monitor so its easy to keep things seperated.

Hummm, I'll take a look at it when I change the computer (hopefully before Christmas), but I don't know if I have enough money for two monitors (I wanted to buy a decent computer, with ALL decent components, not like this one, with bad speakers, average soundcard...). Bah, I also can buy the 2nd monitor later :)
