Think you are safe ? This ought to bump you off your socks

This is for those of you who feel that you have properly secured your home with good quality locks each night before you turn in.

Now almost any Tom, Dick and Harry can break into your house with no sign of forced entry which means your insurance company would just assume that you left your house unlocked and you deserved to be robbed or burgled and I certainly hope not injured.

I don't always turn on my alarm system, but I will certainly do so as this technique gain more traction on the internet.

Read it in Newsweek and watch it on youtube. I hesistated posting this here, in order to not help propagate this. But I think donationcoders need to know about this to better protect themselves.

Cool, I want to get some. Not for anything illegal. Just to try it out. Could be useful if you lock your keys in your car or something. I could start my own locksmithing business with just a few bumpkeys. People pay me to spend three seconds unlocking their doors with a mallet and a bump key.

Coolness.

This is a serious deal!
There were already a few methods of opening a door without a key before (even some that didn't damage the lock),but this one is so damn simple.
Good thing it doesn't work for the kind of locks i have at home ;)
Good point about insurance companies not paying anything.. :S

This isn't new. Has been around for ages....

Locks don't really do much anyway,... there' just to make people FEEL safer,...
And maybe prevent kids without bumpkeys or the like from entering,...

But if someone is determined to get in, they WILL get in.

oh well :)

I saw this a couple weeks ago, it's scary indeed.

The scary part is of course that it only takes a couple of seconds to break in, it can be done without attracting attention, it isn't noisy, and it doesn't leave any marks. If you come home and find your home robbed this way, you'd either have to kick in your door or break a window to get any insurance >_<

It's really scary that it is a no-brain operation to use the bump keys, and that you can get them easily from the net.

I'd like some myself btw, it would be interesting to see just *how* easy it is. Would also be handy to help the neighbours; I've seen locksmiths in the building block three times, because the healthy jogging type people often forget their keys  :P
