I set up this section based on strong requests in the irc channel for a place on DC to rant about companies.

I'm a little hesitant to do so because there are already some very good other site for such posts.

Feel free to post here your rants about companies, but also feel free to post on one of the other great sites (like http://www.shitware.net) and just post a link to those sites here.

NOTE: This section has been expanded to include PRAISE about good companies -- we thought it was only fair to have both here.

UPDATE April 21, 2011: We have decided to merge the complaints and compliments section posts with our other forums so there is no separate forum section for such posts.

Here is another good one for complaining (or complimenting) about any company, online or offline:

Be sure to read their guide about how to file a good complaint:

Feel free to move my post about the Software Scamming company into this more appropriate forum.

Maybe each post should be a poll with two options: Agree and Disagree (or a range encompassing those two).  This allows readers to give there opinion on whether they agree with the assessment and gets the community more involved exposing companies.  Just a thought.

Thanks for the link to shitware - I'd forgotten about it and now, after reading it for 20 minutes am breathless from laughing. Thanks for setting it up, Renegade. Your video on the Samsung "Hand-pone" software had me in stitches.

Just to add to the link list, Ed Foster's GripeLog at http://www.gripe2ed.com is a terrific resource for problems with software and hardware vendors. Ed's been doing this for years (first with InfoWorld magazine, then on his own, and now back with InfoWorld again.)

What's better is that Ed is actually an advocate for his readers, often getting involved and talking directly to the companies on the receiving end of a gripe. (You may find it hard to believe, but some companies will actually respond more snappily to a reporter from a nationally syndicated magazine than they will to one of their own paying customers! Shocking but true!!  undecided )

Ed also fights the good fight for all software users by blowing the whistle on shady licensing schemes and marshalling opposition to bad laws like the UCITA amendments "big software" tried to enact into law without anyone noticing. He also maintains a list of the most griped-about companies.

A great read, even if you don't have a rant. People should be required to spend an hour at his site before they're issued a software buyer's license.  smiley

I like the idea, of polling from users here.  Maybe, agree, disagree and no experience with this company.  And if votes are changable later, and you do have an encounter with a company you could update your vote.

Yes - I was just about to post a big +1  Thmbsup on the poll idea and realise that it is 9 months old. Still a good idea!

I had a problem with Best Buy.com.  I ordered 2 TV sets on the web , to be picked up at my local Best Buy Store.  First set arrived in a box with
no damage, but when I took it home the entire front of the set was cracked across the top. Called Best Buy.com they said no problem, just bring it back and swap it.
Store manager said he would not take back broken set. Was very rude, said it was .com problem and not his !  I spent 45 minutes on my cell
going up the chain of command until I got to someone who forced him to take back TV.
He then would not sell me other TV.  I sent emails to Best Buy.com, but all they said was " sorry ,that is our system."
I will never shop there again !
