rsnapshot and rdiff-backup : mirroring and backing up your website smartly

(1/1)

mouser:
I've been looking into efficient and easy ways to keep backups of a server and came across these two tools.
Note these are not for casual users, but for server admin types, and run mostly on *nix.

* rdiff-backup: http://www.nongnu.org/rdiff-backup/
* rsnapshot: http://www.rsnapshot.org/
Also see these tutorials at http://www.howtoforge.com:

* Create Incremental Snapshot-style Backups With rSync And SSH
* Mirror Your Web Site With rsync
* Automated Backups With rdiff-backup
* Creating Images Of Your Linux System With SystemImager
* Backing Up And Restoring Your Dedicated Server With SystemImager

Chris:
I use RIBS (Rsync Incremental Backup Script) http://www.rustyparts.com/ribs.php to back up servers. It use rsync to minise netwrk traffic.

RIBS is run by cron jobs. Theservers doneed shell access.

It is very efficent and easy to use.
