Grab windows object misfit
« on: April 17, 2019, 02:30 AM »
Hi all,

When I try to capture a windows object (fe form), the red rectangle around the object is bigger than the actual object.
The resulting capture also.
Other screen captoring tools do not have this problem (fe Snipping tool).
To be able to use screenshot captor, I now take the screenshot in Snipping Tool and save the file.
I then open it in Screenshot Captor to edit.
I am using Windows 10

Is this a known issue?
Thanks

Chris

Can you make sure you are using the latest version of SC and then give me some more details about how the resulting capture is too big?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.
Attached you'll find 2 images.
One from screenshotcaptor. The other from snipping tool.
You can see that around the screenshotcaptor image, there is a border of the underlaying screen.

same window with snipping tool.PNGGrab windows object misfit

Ok, sounds like I might need to look into whether on Windows 10 I need to adjust for the border size of windows..
If you capture a smaller object than a window, like a button or a text box, the size seems correct?

I cannot select a button or textbox with Snipping tool.
So, I installed Picpick to grab a button.
And the both button are exactly the same size. 123 x 203

Now I tested again on a form and the resulting sizes of the PNG files are different
Screenshot: 1047 x 777 ( one can clearly see the extra border)
picpick: 1027 x 770

See attached files

thx

Ok that's helpful -- I'll see if I can't fix this. I seem to remember windows api providing information about window border size based on the theme -- I think that might be the solution.

I thought of another question.  If you select that window and use the ACTIVE WINDOW CAPTURE mode instead of the red box object mode, what does the capture look like in that case?

Thanks for the reply.

Using the active window grab works fine. The size of the capture is OK
Perhaps, this may be part of the solution to determine the size of the object

Yes, I was hoping that would be the case.  Should make it fairly easy for me to do a fix for the red box object capture of window forms.
Thanks for your help tracking down the problem -- I should have an update in the next few days.
