haha - thanks, Dormouse.  Funny, the discussion wasn't really about TextWorx, though!

I thought it actually was about the program with few digressions.
I must have missed even more than I thought.

TextWorx is updated to version 1.3!

Ath - I've added your base64 encode string function.
Also, the other casing effects are added.

Amazing.  :up: It's been a while since I've come across a program as thought-through and well-documented as TextWorx. I noticed a small typo under User-Tools: the methods listed there are: open, edit and run. It should probably read "open, send and run".

How do I set my favorite date format? Can anyone help me with that?

Edit: Guess I figured it out, it seems like "Favorite" refers to the Windows regional settings.

Hi, Mr. Maniac,

Favourite Date Format..  uh, hmmmmm.   uh.  Well, you know... uh,  actually, I don't know.

There is an ini key for it favouritedateformat and I'm pretty sure you just put whatever date format you want.  Examples are:  yyyy-MMM-dd  and  MMMM, d, yyyy and hh:mm:ss  things like that.  It basically just uses the autohotkey date format settings.  I'll update the documentation with the next version.

So, you would add your date format to the [preferences] section in the textworx.ini file and then restart TextWorx.
favouritedateformat=dd-MMM-yyyy

Thanks for pointing that out!  Oh - and thanks for the donation credits.

Thanks. Adding the key favouritedateformat to the ini-file did the trick.

I've been using Textworks for 2 days only, and already I wouldn't want to miss it. Incredibly useful. It keeps surprising me with elegant solutions, the customizing options and colored menus make it easy to navigate.

Is there a way to get rid of the 2 bottom entries of the main menu?
Help and Toggle Toolbar eat up valuable space. I tried locating their IDs (857 and 859) in the ini. but was not able to hide them.

Mr. Maniac,

Oh yes, you can do anything you want with the menu.
In the docs, just overwrite the mainmenu key in the [menu] section.
It looks like this:
mainmenu=default

If my docs were clear enough, you would understand to copy the expansion (it's in the Menu page in the docs) and then customize it to yoyour liking.
mainmenu=800|866|||201|307|302|301||104|901|212|725||encase|coding|editor|sort|trim|transform|convert|webedit|insert|*sar|*date|tools

....except, that those two items are hard-coded...  (I add them statically; never imagined that anyone would want to remove them)
Okay, Ill fix that in the next version.

Thank you. I really appreciate it. Like you said, users who want to keep those 2 commands in their customized menus can easily do that - by adding the respective IDs. But for those who don't need it, it would free up valuable space.  :Thmbsup:

Your help docs are very clear, btw. In fact, one of the best help files I've come across. With numerous examples and detailed explanations. No complaints whatsoever.
When putting it into practice, I run into some inconistencies. According to the help file:
The ... in the Menu titles indicates that the command uses a dialogue box to gather user information - you should hold the modifier key WHEN you push the Accept button in the dialogue.

This is not the way it works with Trim N Characters (713). It requires holding the modifier key BEFORE calling up the dialog. Once you're in the dialog box, it's too late, clicking the Accept button with a modifier key has no effect.

Actually, I see "Trim N Characters" as a line command, I cannot imagine a usage scenario other than in multi-line situations. I mean, who uses that command on the first line only? Much easier to simply delete the chars up front than going through the motions with menu and dialog box. So imo, the command should work on individual lines by default, just like Renumber Lines (725), but maybe that's just me.

It were nice to have an "Add N Characters" command as well, especially for markdown docs, to add asterisks for bullets or letters and numbers for lists:

I'll think about the Trim N Characters and see what I can see.

For the Add N Characters, you can use "Surround" and just don't put anything for the front side.  Hold ctrl when you accept the dialogue to work on the lines.

I am thinking of adding a submenu for markdown.  Someone else mentioned that, too, and so maybe it can be useful in webpages.  I'd probably use it, too.

You are right ofc. The surround...-command does exactly what I want.
Thanks. Also for being open to suggestions.

Hmm, on my machine it does not seem to open at all!
Should be a fairly standard Win10 box.
Any thoughts?

What actually happens? Nothing? You might want to right click the executable, look at properties, and see if it is blocked if so.

There is no regular GUI when you run it.  Push win+k to summon the menu.  Take a look at the help file.

TextWorx updated to version 1.4.  Lots of goodies here.  See the help file or online documentation.  Links are in the first post.

Hi, Nelson,

Translate...  ah, well, I'd have to invent something in order to translate it; at the moment it's never been designed for that, and the way the names are inbedded in the code is kind of intricate.  If I ever figure it out (and spend time on that) then I'll let you know, but I don't expect it to be anytime soon.

Just so's you know -- I've been using Textworx for a few weeks (and find it really useful!) on one of my PCs and a couple of days ago put it on my laptop.

My antivirus -- EMSI Antimalware -- decided it didn't like it.

I submitted it as a false positive and they've emailed to say they've reclassified it. Yay. :)

oblivion - yeah, it's really a compiled autohotkey script, and does a lot of juggling of the clipboard - I can see how it could set off an alarm.  But thanks for submitting it and getting it classified.  That's kind of neat - I don't think anyone has ever told me they've done this before!  I don't write programs for money or profit - just for fun for myself, and I just share for fun, too.  Thanks, friend!

Hi BGM,
Thank you for this amazing tool!

I find the toolbar quite helpful; though it appears that most of the buttons require a few try to get the desired result.

e.g. I am trying on the "encase" button. I would select the text and press on the button, and instead of encasing it with quotation mark, it would basically paste the last entry on the clipboard. I would then control+z to reverse that, and then try the encase button again. Usually on the 2nd or 3rd try it would work. Same seems to be the case with other buttons, such as change case ones.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thanks!
