Is IE7 or Firefox 2 safer?

...Both browsers are officially out in widely available public beta releases (Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 and Firefox 2 Beta 1), so it’s a good time to compare how well each one performs.

For this report, I’ve put together an image gallery that shows exactly how the Windows XP version of each browser performs when faced with common security threats....

It depends on the user. Or in other words: PEBCAK.

Have you used IE7? Heck, IE6 SP2 was pretty good on its own. I've never had anything happen to me while browsing with IE6 sp2.

Flashblock in Opera.I recommend adding the css code in the browser.css file for a permanent effect and enabling Always load javascript opera:config#UserPrefs|AlwaysLoadUserJavaScript (paste the red text in the address bar,run and tick the box).

As for adblock the new Opera 9 has that build-in (named "Content Block"), not as flexible as the Firefox equivalent as it doesn't support regular expressions but it gets the job done. Here are some generic rules to add to urlfilter.ini and here are specific ad servers also for adding in urlfilter.ini.

I'm still waiting for Firefox 2.0 to hit, but I've been happy with Opera and IE7/Maxthon. Opera will render more pages than either Firefox or IE6/7, and when I really truly need to access a funky site, Opera does it. As for security, I figure most of us have come to the conclusion that computing itself is insecure unless you're not online, and don't install any software on your computer! Today Firefox has a problem, tomorrow IE has five more new ones. Much like fighting in the MidEast: it never ends.
