The server went down unexpectedly from 11pm to 12 midnight New York Time, on Saturday July 29.

Please excuse the downtime; still trying to figure out what caused it.

Bummer about the downtime, but IRC was still up.  We had a good time waiting for the Great Server Reboot.
For those online during the outage, be sure to get your patented "I Survived the Great Server Outage of July" t-shirts available soon from hamradio.   :P

If you missed it, you missed seeing a frightened mouser!   :o

Take this opportunity to remember, it can happen at any moment, so BACKUP YOUR STUFF!

it seems we might have a bad memory stick in the server or something similar..
we may experience some downtime in the next 24-48 hours if they need to replace hardware.
I will keep you updated.  If you have an account on the donationcoders.com server this is the time to back it up.

+100 points for everyone who guessed that tech support at the hosting company would foul up the hardware replacement and take us offline for a day..

Looks like things are back to normal now.

Thanks for your patience!

servstra.com is where we have our $205/month dedicated server.
i would not recommend them.
the hardware and price is good - the tech support is not.

Mmhmm. That's why I wanted the name: to avoid. ;)

I recently got a quote from Rackspace - pricey, yes indeed...

Glad to see we are back up. Has your hosting provider provided a reason as to why this took so long?

they never do.  actually most of the time they are the ones that cause the problems.  when asked to explain what caused the problem and what the fix was, they rarely reply.
