I'm going to assume that was tongue-in-cheek rather than an ad-hominem statement.  Do you have any references to back up your position?  Because all of the grammar tools that I use in writing don't flag either of them as incorrect.

Tiesenhausen:
I can only say they should, and leave it at that. No, of course, it's a common usage, especially in the last few decades. I'll continue to avoid it.
