Clip Order and Duplicate Copies
« on: January 06, 2018, 01:49 PM »
Hello have a quick question if anybody can help. If I copy 1, 2, 2, 3. I want to past 1, 2, 2, 3 but it seems CHS wants to paste 1, 2, 3.

Does anyone know the setting to change to have the former?

Copy 1, 2, 2, 3

Paste 1, 2, 2, 3

Not 1, 2, 3, and whatever was in the history before then.

Got the answer on this.

I'm curious: what was the solution?

Thanks for asking. Actually there was no resolution to this issue as much as a confirmation that when a piece of text is copied more than once it is treated as one clipboard item.

I will have to make some differentiation between my placeholders if they are consecutive like * and **

You could try: CHS Options--> Misc. Options 1 --> When duplicate found: "Don't check for duplicates"

I haven't tried it, but I would presume that that could probably sort out your requirement to preserves duplicates in the stack in the order in which they arrive.
Just a thought.

Maybe we need a "CHS Experiential Tips and Tricks" thread, or something, in this forum. There's so much thoughtfully-designed functionality in CHS that even its creator - @mouser - sometimes seems to forget about bits of it.

I think I see what's happening..  Turning off the checking of duplicates, as IainB suggested, should solve your problem and do what you want, but CHS is still balking at copying the same clip multiple times in a row.. It's refusing to create a new clip that is the exact same contents of the previous clip..   That's almost always what one wants, but you've come up with a scenario where you need it.. I'll have to add an option for that..

Correct. Generally we don't want duplicated values..
but sometimes.... we need it.
For example
city: Madrid
county: Madrid
Two consecutives Madrid
But something more usual is we can have EMPTY field, and in a record we have 2 or 3 empty fields.
city: Madrid
phone: empty
mail: empty
web: madrid.com
at this moment we are in troubles to copy it.
Thanks for any improvement

By the way. When we are doing this operation, it , perhaps, doesn't make any sense of storing everything in the database. There are temporary stacks used to transfer info from one site to another. I suggest this just in case it simplify the operation.
