CHS Error Boxes and I do not know how to fix

<< < (2/2)

mouser:
I forgot to ask if you had migrated your chs data or files from another computer to your current one?

imscottb:
originally, yes, I had, but I deledted all of that since I read that was not good. I DELETED ALL old data, etc.

mouser:
Well it's not that it's not good -- you can absolutely migrate your old data file and settings to a new machine.
It's just that depending on how it's done you could end up in a situation where CHS is trying to save files where it shouldn't.

So, the things to check for are the configdir.ini file in the CHS program files directory -- that file might be telling CHS to try to save the data files in the program files directory, which you don't want it to do.

Can you get into the options of CHS? If so make sure you are using the latest version of CHS and see what it says at the top of the Statistics tab regarding where your database and temp file are stored.

Another thing you might try is this: exit chs, then go to the CHS program files directory and delete any your configdir.ini, or configdir_default.in (i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Clipboard Help+Spell\ConfigDir.ini)
(BETTER YET WOULD BE TO RENAME IT OR MOVE IT SO WE CAN LOOK AT IT LATER IF IT SOLVES THE PROBLEM)

If that still doesn't solve it, and you don't care about your existing database, go to your MyDocuments/DonationCoder directory and delete your C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\DonationCoder\Clipboard Help+Spell folder.

imscottb:
What I have done, AGAIN, is DELETE EVERYTHING after uninstalling CHS.
All seems okay so far.
I will keep you updated.
Thanks for the ideas, Mouser. I do so appreciate it and YOU.
Thanks, again,
Scott

imscottb:
This seems to have taken care of the problem, so far, Mouser.
I have done this before, but this time it seems to have taken care of it.
I deleted EVERYTHING related to CHS. I delted my files/folders in My Documents. I uninstalled the program and I deleted ALL files/folders in the program files\X86 director, as well.
I'll let you know if the problem seems to come back.
Thanks, so much.
Scott
