FolderViewer on Shareware on Sale
« on: December 30, 2016, 11:09 AM »
This came up impressively, dual pane, connected to OneDrive.  Do not know the company

Not sure how these freebies from Sharewareonsale work in terms of multiple puters or the license fuzzing out sometime.

I tested version 4 and was pleasantly surprised. But because the program uses Google Desktop Search - and I don't want Google to be in my home - I removed it within the trial period.

Is Google Desktop Search still a product?

modified:
GDS is not included, but FV will incorporate GDS, if GDS is installed.

But what I'm asking, is Google Desktop Search even still a product?  I looked it up, and the only downloads are from third party sites- not google.  Looking into it a bit deeper, it appears that it was discontinued by Google in 2011.  So that con seems not to really be a con, unless you go out of the way to make it so.

When I tested FV version 4, GDS was abandoned by Google but still available elsewhere. The GDS versions I was able to find right now, were much older - I couldn't find any of the latest versions from any time close to year 2011. I guess one reason the company behind FV is keeping the feature is because GDS was (is) able to index and search several rare file types, like CADD files. And if you're running XP or Win 7 and already have a copy of GDS, FV can be quite useful.

I guess the only reason I was asking, is I saw this:

This is a 1-computer lifetime license, for commercial or noncommercial use
No free updates; if you update the giveaway, it may turn become unregistered
No free tech support
You must download the installer before this giveaway has ended
May not be resold

And usually when I see something like that, I check the main product to see if I want to buy it... because no way am I agreeing to that.

At http://www.matirsoft.com/, the feature product is FolderViewer.  They didn't have the price readily visible, just a buy now button, so I was skeptical, especially since the product seems to have so many features- but it's only $10.  Seems cheap for what it purports to do.

It does list quite a few features.  One thing they boast about is being "the inventor of the ribbon."  Now I know where to send my hate mail.   heh heh heh

@saraedward, welcome to "DC"  :up:

if anyone use please advice us

please first tell what you want it to do. However, the giveaway file was for file version 5.0, but a proper license is merely $10, so it might be better to just purchase a so-called "lifetime" key and get version 5 02 with new "Find File Duplicates", etc.:

6.57 minutes manual for version 5 02 (yes, no dot):
