Don't Click It
« on: July 07, 2006, 12:04 AM »
http://www.dontclick.it/

i love this website   , i wish one day it will become a reality, no more clicking, just mouse movements.
If you find a good solution and become attached to it, the solution may become your next problem.

Humm... I find that interface annoying. I usually move the mouse cursor while reading text, to have an idea where I'm at if I get distracted. With his interface, moving the mouse "does stuff". No can do.

Yeah i'll have to agree with f0dder on this one.
It's really annoying. I keep opening things I don't want to open with either one of the two presented mouse gestures. And the timer just makes things too slow.

Personally, the more buttons the merrier, which is probably why I'm a keyboard freak.
I HATED them apple mice with only one button. It'd drive me totally CRAZY to have a mouse without buttons!

There's a reason why the mouse has buttons - and a reason why PC mice have at least two. It works. I'm not saying some more movement-controlled interface stuff is a bad idea, though - move-over hotspots for bringing up toolbars and the like can be pretty efficient.

But a move-over hotspot for "launch nuclear missiles"... I think we need buttons :P

I don't like this at all...I am one of those people that's pretty click happy.

and just like f0dder my mouse is all over the place.

and I don't like the idea of giving up my middle clicking to open in new tab...or right clicking for other purposes.

I have seen things similar on a few websites to activate popup ads...didn't like it at all!

No, no way, nobody's taking my mouse buttons away!
This inteface is all but accurate, it's very limitative.
It'd force the user to use the other hand in situations where only a mouse click would be enough (because it's limitative, it'd need modifiers help to expand it's functions).  If not, it'd take much speed away, since the user would have to to a bunch of mouse movements to do actions (which is yet another problem, you'd have to memorize them), or it'd take years to do stuff because you'd have to wait for the buttons to be activated on mouse-over.

I think it's unuseful, unconfortable and limitative. But, the site sure does look good!

PS: i'd love to see them doing a demo of someone using photoshop with that method :P
