GOG Connect - DRM-free access to your Steam library
« on: June 01, 2016, 01:14 PM »
GOG just announced GOG Connect, where you can link your Steam account with your GOG account to get DRM-free access to eligible titles from your Steam library.

https://www.gog.com/connect

It seems the "eligible titles" are time-limited and will change every so often, so be sure not to procrastinate in linking your accounts.

The demand for this is crazy. It seems the Steam API is overloaded and throttling requests. It may take days for them to process all the requests. So definitely do it sooner than later, due to the time-limited nature of this. AFAIK there has been no clarification from GOG as to whether or not the time limits will be extended due to delays beyond all our control.

Didn't take an unreasonable amount of time- Mine are done, and I got 9 games from it.  I put my request in late last evening, so it's not too crazy.  As far as the throttling, it's not for this specific instance.  The steam API is normally throttled for use, as most APIs are.

I put my request in yesterday morning and wasn't able to redeem the games from my account until this morning. But it does seem to have settled down quite a bit.

And it looks like they added another game to the collection in the meantime. I didn't notice Surgeon Simulator 2013 among the eligible titles yesterday, but now it's there. I wonder if they'll announce which games are part of the GOG Connect feature as they come (and go) or if they expect us to just check it every few days to make sure we don't miss anything.

Surgeon Simulator 2013

That didn't really look like a game to me.  Do you like it?  (A bit OT I know... but was curious when you said that)

I've never played it. I guess I got it as part of a bundle or something. It's not something I'd spend money on.

No games found, apparently you need a public steam profile for this to work. I can see it says so now, I didn't notice it yesterday.

Looks like they expect us to check every few days or risk missing out. I had forgotten about it but checked again today due to the sale and there are 3 new games in the list (and all the others have expired by now). Makes me wonder if I missed any others. . .

I can't even check right now because of high traffic.  They need to figure out a better way to facilitate this IMO.

I guess I'm not the only one who was reminded about it due to the sale. . .

For what it's worth, I remember what two of them were:

They should also have a convenient link somewhere. As of now, you have to remember it.  There's no link (at least that I've found) conveniently situated on the site.

Doorkickers is on that list too.

And they now have a timer on them, so you know when they run out, which is a step in the right direction.

Your post reminded me that they are all listed on http://gog.com/connect but only if you're not logged in.

If you are logged in then it will only show you the games after it has verified your Steam account and whether or not you can (or have already) redeem(ed) them. :-/

Anyone here own the Master of Orion (1, 2, or 3) games on Steam?

They were recently part of GOG Connect, but it looks like the offer has expired now. I'm curious if just having your account linked during the promotional period is enough to get it, or if you really do need to constantly check back and click "refresh" all the time.

I think just having them linked is enough.  I'm pretty sure I didn't have MOO3, but I have it now.

UPDATE: Nope.  I already had them.  Sorry.

The Witcher Trilogy has been on GOG Connect for a while, maybe even since the last promotion a couple weeks ago. But now they're doing their Black Friday sale and Limbo is a new title on GOG Connect.

The Saints Row games are on GOG Connect right now. And Saints Row 2 is free on GOG for those who don't already own it.

GOG's summer sale has begun, and with it, I count 40 games available on GOG Connect.
