Tux Paint
http://www.newbreeds...ftware.com/tuxpaint/

maybe not as good as Kid Pix (http://www.riverdeep...s/kid_pix/kpd4.jhtml)
but you can't beat the price

anyone interested in us doing a review on kid's painting programs?

Have you tried "Project Dogwaffle"?  It's a paint type program for artists.  It isn't really for kids, but my 12 & 14 year old girls use it all the time & love it.

Or "PlantStudio"?

It's also at www.download.com.  The author's website is in I think German, so unless you know German, I'd use download.com if I were you.  That's what I did.  Again, it's not really a kid's drawing program, but it's a program that allows you to create your own flowers & other garden plants along with whole gardens & scenes.  My kids like it a lot as well.

Thanks for pointing out Tux Paint!  I think I've heard of it before, but for some reason never bothered installing it.  My daughter enjoys it, so how can I complain?

I learned quickly that it really is necessary to run it in full-screen mode.  And it saves files as PNG, which is cool.  I recommend downloading the "rubber stamps" too.  Good stuff.
