Hi,

thanks for great tool. I have a question about file saving rules. I crawled thru all the settings, but even if I put single file name like "screenshot" files are being stored with counter (screenshot_as_00001.png, etc. Is somehow possible to use just one name, which will be replaced everytime with new screenshot (e.g. screenshot.png) ? In more details - I am running central surveillance camera system (full screen splitted into 6 pieces/cameras) and I need every hour automaticaly capture screen and send that picture by e-mail. And because AS creating "counted" filenames I have an issues to send right (recent) screenshot by e-mail.

Thanks

Marek

That's a good idea.  I can whip up a new version soon with an option for this.

There are two ways it could be done:
1. Let user specify a filename pattern on "File Saving" tab that as usual but add an option that tells AS to overwrite existing file if it already exists (instead of autonaming with counter).
2. Have an option that does file saving uniquely as it currently does but ALSO saves some generic filename ("lastcapture.png" for example) and always overwrites.

Which would be more useful?

Thanks for fast reply. My vote is for 2nd option - would be great to have such functionality (and much better than 1st option). Maybe it would be easier for you to implement as well - keep file saving rules as it is,  and just simply copy recent screenshot to "lastcapture.png".

DC member Ballue told me about a nice writeup of Automatic Screenshotter here:

Timing is a bit off.. Feels to me like the latest mention must have been in an email newsletter somewhere..

It is a pity that the auto screencap article refers to sourceforge instead of donationcoder.com :-(

It was not possible for me to add a comment to correct this.

The sourceforge link is for the second runner-up app they posted about at the end of the article.  The first 3/4 of the article is about Automatic Screenshot Captor and it links to us correctly.

Ballue, please try the latest beta:

v1.08.1 - Aug 5, 2017
  • [Feature] Added option to enable (default) automatic renaming of files if a file exists with the same name already.  This was always done in previous versions, now it can be disabled.
  • [Feature] Added option to save a LastCapture.EXT file in current settings directory after each capture; useful with other tools if you want to react to the latest capture.

Hi Mouser,

amazing job, it does exactly what I needed :-)

Actually running for testing purposes auto-capture every 5 minutes (fullscreen app) and win scheduler send e-mail every 5 minutes with lastcapture.jpg in attachement and all looks perfect.

Thanks a lot man

It's a great tool, thanks

Below a few suggestions :)

  • Is it possible to add an option to open the screenshot folder in the windows explorer?
  • Is it possible to add an option to make a screenshot after x seconds after every click? - If making a screenshot on VNC, I need sometime to allow VNC to refresh the screen
  • Is it possible to have the systray icon to change when it is taking a screenshot (so that I am sure a screenshot was taken)?
  • The option "Launch Internal screenshot browser" makes something funny in W7,64b - all window size of open apps go very slim and desktop icons get scrambled....

Cheers!

You can use View->Launch External Screenshot Browser, but I will add a new option to just open folder in next version.

I will look into it.

I will add such an option; you can also have it play a sound currently to help you confirm.

I have had a similar report -- I will fix it.  My stupid tool is trying to DOCK to the side of the screen.
