Any photoshoppers feel like trying to hauntify a house photo
« on: September 29, 2015, 08:40 PM »
This is a long shot, but here goes..

I live in a 1929 five-story brick condominium.  Each halloween i get the idea to turn one of the photos i've taken of the building into a haunted house image and frame it and sneak it up in the lobby for fun -- but I just don't have the skills for it.

I found a couple of nice photoshop tutorials (the latter of which has a great download zip with helper resources).

What they do:
Screenshot - 9_29_2015 , 8_40_56 PM.png
Screenshot - 9_29_2015 , 8_41_46 PM.png

Here's a thumbnail of the original image I have (its aprox. 4200x2750 RAW; it looks very dark here but the RAW format has full detail to make it bright):
Screenshot - 9_29_2015 , 8_28_45 PM.png

And for fun here's a nice HDR image I made from the raw image to celebrate winter:
Screenshot - 9_29_2015 , 8_28_57 PM.png

The full RAW image (16mb) can be downloaded: here.

I can't offer much by way of compensation but I could certainly offer *one* person $50 if the result was good enough that i used it -- i know it's not much.. but if you are interested in making a serious attempt, maybe contact me first or post here so that we don't have multiple folks expecting to be compensated.

Extra credit if you make it a GIF with a jumpscare. :)

I can't print an animated gif -- this is going to be blown up large and printed and framed!

Don't be a party pooper! Use a digital photo frame! Or a 4K TV!

Cool house! I don't feel competent enough to do what you want.
But you could also set up one of these:
Remote Controlled Flying Ghoul Prank Freaks Out Joggers & People In Park
(esp. starting at 1:45)

Full size remote control flying Witch

Skeleton on the motorcycle scares people- Prank Brazilian

Compromise on a 'When you see it' type of image that has something horrific yet very subtle incorporated into the photo.

That's pretty darn good!!!!

you did an awesome job of isolating it from the background.

definitely an alternate reality!
the idea of it being on a scary beach is fun :)

might be nice if it was a little scarier -- perhaps a haunted ghost ship in the water, etc.

it looks like i'm going to have at least one version to put on the wall and surprise people with
this is going to be so fun :)

now an important question:  i hope you made the changes to the high resolution version of the image -- as i am going to need to blow this up and print it?

hehe ... You and my wife both said it needs something. Mind you I'm not disagreeing, I'm just at my limits. I tried the ghost ship idea but I can't pull it off. Hell, I was lucky to get that far.

Full res .jpg (I also saved the .PSD if need be):

The cemetery attempt looked like crap ... But here's a version with a - watery grave - tomb that turned out ok (I think):

Looks neat -- although i think the cross/christian-imagery could be off-putting to some in my building, so that probably won't work for me..

...And thus is the nature of the anguish that is the PC movement. I googled beach cemetery and up that popped. It really is an existing nautical grave marker ... So - as an atheist - I figured WTH it fits...lets go with it.

Hay, I understand that IRL it's -(pardon the pun)- your cross to bear ... I just think is really sad that some people can't get over themselves for the 8 seconds it takes to recognize a landmark that has been incorporated into a theme.

"The cross is an enduring symbol of religious faith, above carved within a circle of letters."

"The anchor is a symbol of hope and steadfastness, and eternal life.  It is often found on sailors' headstones.  Masons used it as a symbol of well-grounded hope. Early Christians used it as a disguised symbol of the cross.  "

Side note:  I completely agree that this PC culture is becoming stupid...people get offended over the most ridiculous things and I swear that 90% of the time they do it just for the sake of being an asshole  :(

i hear ya.  i have completely committed to not being "offended" by stuff. when people tell me about some verbal "gaffe" someone makes and expect me to laugh or heap scorn with them i explain to them that i'm not playing that game.  i refuse to get offended by things that have no effect on me.

with that said -- clearly we live in a world where people are just dying to find things to be offended about -- and in a situation like this, where this is purely being done to amuse and entertain, and where we aren't talking about some core personal belief that has to be self-censored..  it's not worth upsetting people about.  learning to choose your battles is one of the most valuable lessons i've learned about being in a building full of people with different viewpoints.

and also.. personally i think a pirate ship would look spookier  ;D

I tried, I couldn't pull it off. I was thinking about a leviathan too, but didn't have time to try it.

Added ghostship.

I am working in Paintshop Pro, which doesn't handle PSDs very well.

Bummer...'cause it looks like you got the final version.. ;)

This thing is too big (141MB compressed) to attach to the thread. But I'll host it for a bit for whoever wants it:

I'll see what I can do about exporting each layer out of PSP and reassembling them in Photoshop.
