With the help of Gothic, I finally learned how to make a game...

Yay!

I used Game Maker to do it.

Hey Della,

Congrats on your first game.  I started to look at it but didn't get a chance to play.

Which leads to my comment on the game maker:  It's a little rude.  It switch my display to 640x480 or something; messed up my windows and kill my ATI TV picture.

Please don't take that as a hit on you or your game... I blame the game making kit.  ;)

Good luck on your next adventure.

Actually it switches to 800x600. You must have funky drivers for your ATI card :/
It's not really gamemaker's fault. You could make an options window first and such, but that would be a bit complicated for her first program - ever.

Here's a windowed version:

This is really cool.

I never heard of Game Maker before. I think my daughter would love this.

Doing games must be interesting! This one's fun, but i think it misses "help", because people might not understand the point :P

Here's a strange behaviour:

The smilie doesn't go all the way to the border, so i couldn't get to that snail. ;)

Thanks for your responses everyone,
I had a lot of fun making it, I think its a "happy" little game....after all, how many games do u know of that the object is to "save the snails"?
My next project on this game is to somehow make cars that will run over the snails...make it a bit harder for you to save all the snails...
lol
im so weird

What an enjoyable game for a first attempt.  :)

Thanks for the link to Game Maker, Mouser. I'm downloading it. Looks fun. This is probably a lot more complex, but there is a program out there called RPG Maker (Hey, they have a new version! Cool.) designed specifically to make RPGs in the style of SNES and early (2D) Playstation RPGs. Cool fun if you ever take the time to learn how to use the scripting language. The last one I tried was RPG Maker 2003 which had a someone involved scripting language, but from the preview video the XP version looks like it could be much more intuitive.

Actually everything rpgmaker can do, can be done in GameMaker. It also has it's own scripting language, and since it allows you to make plugins you can do about anything with it.

Some People have made an irrlicht plugin allowing you to use the 3d engine within game maker and create 3d games, however the plugin is vastly outdated and behind on the latest irrlicht developments. It's rather easy to make though, here's a C example: http://www.shawn64.com/shaltif/Stuff/gmirrlicht.txt

Another thing you might want to check out is Sphere. Sphere is, just like rpgmaker and gamemaker a gamerad tool thingie, but it is mostly script based. It doesn't have a drag-and-drop-code interface like gamemaker. http://sphere.sourceforge.net/
