but preferably with "Latest News" a few points larger

Do you mean "Latest Forum Posts"?

No, I really did mean the former but "Latest Forum Posts" doesn't stand out much now you draw my attention to it.
My thought is that "Latest" anything ought to shout a bit.

I liked #1 better but maybe that's just because it has the wonderful image of Cody in it. :-*

A font of 24 point Helvetica, black, bold, with a bright yellow flashing background would probably catch the reader's eye nicely.

You folks have access to the beta site, you can see cody's visage is all over the damn thing!

I'm trying to put different versions of him in the different sidebars -- I think I could still use a little more variety.

Recent work has been on improving the sidebar internal "ad" boxes, so they pop-up a little better.

By the way, testers of the beta cms should frequently do Ctrl+F5 to refresh pages and reload css, as I am messing with css files constantly, and you will still have old css files cached unless you do.

The new cms version of the site will should go live this month in December, and I expect will happen simultaneously with a server move (the first since 2010).

I hope everyone will set aside a little money from the holiday stockings as we will do a fundraiser when the new site goes live to help pay for the next year or two of server hosting costs.  :-*

For those testing, there is a new beta test version of the complete site (cms and forum) uploaded with same htaccess password, on a new server:

I'm getting some practice migrating the site to a new server, which will help ensure that I have the procedure down and ensure that it's easy for us to move from one home to another, and that all of our data is easy to backup and restore.

Let me know if you spot anything not working.

Any beta reports on the new site? How does the speed feel compared to the dcisv.com one?

I've tried it a little bit, and it is really fast, as you state. But that can be caused by the fact I was the only user on it...

You might want to put up the same warning you have on the DCISV forum about it being the beta testing site... not that I'm about to write my life's story there (yet) ;D

Beta version of dcmembers up for people to visit, using same access credentials:
http://www.dcmembers.org

Note that I will be working on this live for a while so don't be surprised to see things changing.

Anyone who currently has a "site" hosted on dcmembers.com, please feel to message me and I can create a wp section for you on the beta dcmembers.org site to experiment with.

I am also looking for 1 dedicated volunteer to help me move over all of skrommel's software to this new site database.  It's a fairly simple process, but it will involve creating a new entry using an online form for each of the 100 or so skrommel's apps that can be found currently on this page:
http://www.donationc...m/Software/Skrommel/. You don't need any special skills, just some patience and dedication -- it's going to take some time.

Cancel that request, it was just easier for me to do it -- Skrommel's releases are now up on the beta dcmembers site.

And any other long-time dc coder who needs a website space and doesn't have a suitable alternative.

Also: As part of the new DC, I wonder if it's not time to revive our old idea of having some regular columnists who write weekly or twice weekly blogs on some area of the software/technology scene.  Anyone feel like they might be interested in such a thing?

This is a very good idea. I have noted that some members are now posting very long messages and they can write them as blogs in DC. Also members who have retired (lucky guys) from day to day coding can put some tips and memories for us to have a smile in this day to day hectic schedules. My two cents.
