Because they are a company and need to set up things first.

Like the features they've been "setting up" for the past 10 years?

A complete rewrite of a complex application is not an easy task.

I hope this works out for them and users - whatever it is that's supposed to happen to make this a success.  But I honestly don't have a great deal of optimism.

But I honestly don't have a great deal of optimism.

What doesn't make me very optimistic is how it was announced.

When a commercial application goes freeware, it's usually announced with great joy and enthusiasm.

This cow doesn't look very happy to be free.

After reading this page where the author describes the move to free:
http://www.admuncher.com/free

Correct me if i'm wrong, but it's hard for me to read that as anything but a really good guy doing a good thing, and very much in the spirit of this site and deserving of our support, encouragement, cheers, and understanding.
This is a rough world and we can all become a little too cynical and pessimistic -- I know I can.

But let's support the small folks trying to do the right thing!
The cow may be a little scared to be free but he may find himself very happily running around in the orchard soon, so let's try to send him some good vibes and tell Cody to go hang out with him.

And two years of making losses presumably meant that options were limited.
And I noticed that the donation options were at a reasonable level and the free use may attract lots of new people to try it and some of them might decide to make donations.
I certainly hope it goes well, but it isn't looking obviously optimistic, especially if there is a massive rise in pressure on their web server.

I registered over 13 years ago and (probably as an early adopter) admuncher hasn't cost me a penny since.
I have what I consider to be a personalized registration which I appreciate.
admuncher is always one of the first I install and has worked satisfactorily all this time. there's only a few programs that I personally hold in such high regard.

I have to admit that I never tried Ad Muncher before, because of the price and because I was afraid that I might like it. — True. I do.

So far I'm amazed with the amount of garbage this app is capable to block. Also, I've never realized before how much the AdBlock plugin slows down the browser.

True dat to both.  Too bad Ad Muncher isn't working with Internet Explorer properly - which I didn't realize until I tested it on some other machines (not mine).

Yeah, but their biggest problem is no filtering on any https:// pages. YouTube, for example. All other adblockers seem to be able to have an effect on https://, yet Ad Muncher has been promising such coverage for NINE years!

That's a logical continuation (and Murray's community had actually warned him), but a sad one anyway.
