Just seen this article ... looks interesting but the site, Geoportail.fr, unfortunately can't cope with demands at the moment as hits have far exceeded anticipation!

I've been trying to access the site since it launched last week. It's supposed to have photos of some areas down to 20cm! But I haven't been able to get in to see. :(

Reminds me a bit of the early days of colour television, when there were three competing systems.  The original American one was NTSC, which allegedly stood for Never Twice the Same Color.  The German one was PAL, Pray And Learn.  The French one was SECAM - Supreme Effort Contre les AMericaines...

LOL - I thought NTSC stood for Nuke The Stupid Competition ...
