What do you do at Donation Coder?
« on: June 21, 2006, 11:09 PM »
I was thinking about where I spend my time @ DC and it's 99.99% in the forums.  Is that normal?
Should we take a poll?

Just curious :)

I guess I was thinking about the review pages and stuff.  Someone new to DC would probably look around a bit.

I almost asked the same thing "what else is there"  but I didn't want to offend any one  ;)

for me:

1)    97% coding for DC while sitting on IRC.
2)    1% reading rss feed while checking email.
3)    1% replying to stuff on the forums that sparked my intrest in the rss feed.
4)    1% checking latest posts to see if i missed something in the rss feed
5)    Back to 1.

By order of amount of time spent:
  • Read Posts
  • Reply to Posts
  • Coding Snacks
  • Check out new findings
  • Newsletter thread collecting
  • Listen to Podcast

I also sit around on the irc channel all day, but that's in paralel with the rest of the actions.
I guess you're right, most of the action revolves around the forum, i guess it's normal in a site with so much members.

Read posts, reply to posts, follow the links to all the cool stuff, look for software producers to harass ask about possible discounts.

And hang out in iRC now and again to feel closer to Mouser ;)

DC is at its heart a great community and that is expressed nowhere else better than here in the forums. And really I think I rather like the fact that, although I can get discounts and even free software here, I spend most of my time just reading what other people have to say and trying to communicate my own thoughts. Even when free things are on offer the biggest focus is still community and that's cool to me. I do hang out on IRC a bit too, but I haven't been on my IM client as much lately as I've been super busy (took a few days off from the forums too). Hopefully I'll be back to my normal lurking self soon. :D
