( I'm leaving in the context-sensitive google ads on the top of the forum for now only because they can be amusing and/or relevant to topics (for now), but other than that..) Big announcement: the website pages have been scrubbed of google ads! now we have something very new.. CodyQuotes! Here's a screenshot: The idea is to show a random little excerpt (teaser) from some of the fun (and some negative!) testimonials/quotes sent in by people. When you click on it you can read the whole thing and other quotes - and on that page we make a pitch to donate. The idea of replacing the ads with these are that: - we have more control and don't feel like suckers begging for advertising dollar pennies
- we might even do better financially if this encourages more donations
- they are just more fun and less obnoxious.
- it will encourage more people to send in comments
Note: currently while testing, many pages show 2 blocks of these, one at top and one at bottom left. I think we will make it alternate between these and not show both at same time. Well, what do you think? (if you are a member you might have ads turned off so you might never see them anyway).

ps. if you are a donating member your ads will turn almost completely off by default. this effects the CodyQuotes too (because they are like an internal advertisement). due to popular request, you can control this - so you can turn them back on (or completely off) at your pleasure. see instructions here: http://www.donationcoder....opic=1228.msg8509#msg8509

Why did this topic just remind me of Paul Simon's song, KodaChrome?

This is an incredible idea! I love it, it looks good, fits the site's spirit, shows how great the site is, demonstrates honesty (by showing the bad quotes), and... IT HAS CODY! How could i not like it? Fantastic, great idea, now i just wish there was a way to keep the codyquotes and lose the google ads, by changing something in the profile. (And shouldn't it be on the forum too? ) Definitelly, this is the way to go, perfect evolution!

(great job on the new feature too.) Yes it is a dead link - simplest solution is just to hit "Profile and Membership" at the top of this page and then "Forum Profile Information on the left" you can then change the "Chance of Displaying Advert. (0-100)" field at the bottom.

they arent on forum page. and some web pages dont have them - i may add them now that they are not pure ads. but like i said, view some of the review or software pages and you should see them, like http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/index.html

Interesting and cool idea. I'm sure you'll be keeping an eye on the donation stats, etc. and I imagine all (certainly myself) would be interested in hearing what kind of effect this has, if any.

How about adding the Cody panel to the forum page top? This is my first port of call on most visits - and I'd guess most regulars - unless I have a reason to look elsewhere on the site (new stuff is usually posted or pointed to on the forums). Shame for the regulars to miss out on the Cody headlines. People can still opt not to have them in their profiles if they don't want to see them.

Ok, but that page is so much to read, it's overwhelming. It'd be nice to have it presented to us in little snippets. So is there any chance to have an "ad" feature for full members too? I know, it's an odd request. - Oshyan
