Opera now supports DuckDuckGo
« on: March 29, 2015, 11:54 AM »
I just noticed today that Opera now supports DuckDuckGo as a default search engine.

It's been a while in coming since they switched to the Chromium engine.

So, for those few people that use Opera, DDG is now available.

Opera is the fastest browser I've tried on Linux without sacrificing usability or features.  Though I never used a whole lot of extensions on other browsers besides ABP and Ghostery, at least those are both available for Opera.  Not having a choice of default search engines was rather disconcerting, so this is good news.

I keep Opera x64 12.14 around just for those instances when I want to figure out if it is the site or FF that's not working.  It is very snappy even on my Laptop.  But lack of AddOns keeps me from using it as my goto.  The chrome based 32 bit one, well, I did a couple years of chromium snapshots.  Kind of had my fill of multi-exe browsing for awhile.  Unless Opera breaks some new ground.

Was wondering about just that this a.m.!
Actually, why Vivaldi didn't do the move yet.
So, Opera beat them to it.

The beta or "next" version should install all Chrome extensions without any hassle.

Q: must I accept C:\Program Files\Opera\launcher.exe --scheduledautoupdate ?
 :tellme:

A: No, that is not necessary. I've deleted the autoupdater, and Opera works quite well all the same.
