it doesn't show 'pro edition', but shouldn't it also say 'home edition'?

From Windows 8 on, there is no Home version - it's Standard (Consumer) or Professional and higher.

So you can't run RDP which leaves you with the other suggestions or VNC.

Your first problem is finding out whether your laptop supports WoL - use the links SJ gave.
