Internationalization issues

I'm running XP Home SP2 with a French installation, however I do alot of work in Hebrew, so that's the default 'special characters' language. Because of this, I noticed that FARR will not search directories that have such special characters in their names, it seems this is true unless the special characters are coming from another latin-based language like French or German. In my case this is particularly annoying since my user's Start Menu is found here:

C:\Documents and Settings\Jacob\Menu Démarrer

However, due to the Hebrew special characters, it's rendered as:

C:\Documents and Settings\Jacob\Menu D'marrer

And then FARR annoyingly skips the stuff inside. I was able to get around this by using Sysinternals' Junction to create some symlinks, and then have FARR search those.

Is this a known issue?

it's the first i've heard of it.. i'm not sure why it should be the case though and it should be fixable i think..  let me put it on my todo list and try to recreate it.

Cool. If you want me to test/validate a fix, just post it here or send it directly to me

mouser:
will do.

can i clarify something?
as i understand it you are doing something a bit unusual having french version of win and then using hebrew special characters..

so it works with french characters and diacriticals(?) as normal.. it just gets stuck with the special characters involved in some additional character set (hebrew in this case?)

and it just doesnt seem to search these folders is that right?

question:
is it just that it wont search these directories when you try to provide them in the search list (have you tried that?)
or is it that it won't search them even if they are subdirectories of directories that it will search.

jshare:
I'll stop using the word search, since I may be giving the wrong impression.

In either case you asked about, stuff isn't being found.

Assuming what you call the 'search list' is the list of folders under Search Folders tab, you know that my user's start menu is automatically added at installation, so if I understood your question, that covers:

1) C:\Documents and Settings\Jacob\Menu Démarrer

However, I did try manually adding:

2) C:\Documents and Settings\Jacob

That didn't work either - still nothing was being found by FARR in directory 1) or its subdirectories.

Some context that may help you reproduce the bug. After installing FARR 2 weeks ago, everything worked fine; at that point I wasn't using Hebrew for special characters. It was only this week that I selected Hebrew in the Advanced tab in Control Panel > Region and Language Settings (I'm translating from French, the cpl applet may actually differ in English). That's what exposed this issue.
