save file feature?
« on: September 12, 2008, 10:17 PM »
When saving an image or a file from the browser (or any application) we have to choose a location with the crappy windows interface and it is always a pain.

Since that FARR file explorer feature is great It would be nice if we could use FARR to save files.
We would just type the name of the folder we want to save inside and it would be done.
We would also have access to our recent typed locations...
Of course we should also be able to choose a name (or let the name by default).

FARR should be used for our everyday most used things and tasks, and it involves the file explorer a lot. I would really appreciate a complete interface to windows inside FARR...  That is what claims all the file launchers but until now FARR is the first to allow browsing the file system in a useful manner so I'd like it to be full featured.

FARR doesn't really have a way to have external apps interact with it directly so I'm guessing this won't be possible soon.

As a workaround just save the file to the desktop, open the desired folder with farr and move the file.

what you can do is:
  • use farr to find the file.
  • select it and hit ctrl+C to copy path.
  • then paste the file path into your application save directory.

Maybe consider one of these two solutions:

1. FlashFolder:
http://www.zett42.de/flashfolder/

2. FavMenu:

@jsd: fenix had already mentioned FlashFolders but this alias by jzippo might come in handy.

Dialog extension with FlashFolder and FARR2

Thanks, it works nice as a workaround.

(I didn't know flash folder but I prefer using the simple trick above instead of relying on another software when it is possible)
