[GAME] Find something beautiful on Google Maps
« on: June 08, 2014, 09:34 AM »
I was checking out some news related geography, and got sidetracked, then thought this might be a fun game...

Browse Google Maps somewhere and find a particularly beautiful scene -- a) post the URL, b) post a screenshot (JPG).

You'll need to use Earth view and zoom in to see the photos in the lower panel.

I'll go first:

You can pan around and find more gorgeous scenes there.

The Google Earth Plugin is currently only available on Windows and Mac OS X 10.6+.

:(

... or else I'd play.   Multnomah Falls, Hoh Rain Forest, Channeled Scablands of Eastern Washington are all beautiful places, but I can't 'Earth View' them on Google Maps.  Sorry 'bout that.

There's no Google Earth application/client for Linux?

Oh, there's a Google Earth version for Linux alright (your choice of 32 or 64-bit .debs and .rpms), I'm just not in the mood to install something from "Don't be evil" & Co. at the moment.
What I was talking about was that there is a Google Earth plugin that you can use when perusing Google maps.  There is no Linux version of the plugin. See here:  https://maps.google....maps?ftr=earth.promo

This is what I get:
