Dead Hot Chicks Boost Weather Ratings?
« on: April 06, 2014, 06:38 PM »
Dead Hot Chicks Boost Weather Ratings?  It would seem like it.  I go to weather radar on Weather.com several times a day as Miami area if quite volatile.  Seems like more often than not there's some news feed about a college age girl dead due to something weather related.  Don't men die in bad weather?

Just seems to be in poor taste somehow.

Edit:  Of course there's a pic of the deceased woman with the story.  I haven't seen a Plain Jane yet.

Pretty tasteless if you ask me.

But then again, isn't that The American Way? :-\

Superboyac beat me to it, but I came into this thread to say that hot chicks, whether they be dead, alive, or even fictional, boost the ratings of everything.

No exceptions.

Ever.

And nobody cares about the fat guy that drowned while riding an inner tube during a flash flood.

No exceptions.

Ever.

FWIW  Not long ago DirecTV dropped The Weather Channel.  I presume this has generated some bad press not to mention lost revenue.
IMO Weather.com is trying to compete with the Local News Stations now.  Trying to outdo them when it comes to 'reporting the worst possible stories they can find'.
Yes... men die too, but they seem to die all the time  :-(  and have become a non-news-topic.
Women... the fair sex, are smarter and most don't take the same chances or risks.  So when they die, for whatever reason, it's big news.

p.s.  My Local News Stations have a segment called Off The Satellites.  They use it when there isn't enough bad local news.   ;D

Back in the day, when I used to travel a lot for work, The Weather Channel was an incredibly useful and fairly unique resource. Today it's a solution in search of a problem. Detailed weather data has been comoditized to the point there's really nothing to justify paying for (or watching) a pay TV channel dedicated to it. Even if I wanted to get that information from TV, one of the local stations has a dedicated local weather channel as one of their secondary streams.

The Weather Channel's solution has been to become like every other news or information channel and transform their product into infotainment. It's not working very well and I don't see it going anywhere but down from here.
I learned to say the pledge of allegiance
Before they beat me bloody down at the station
They haven't got a word out of me since
I got a billion years probation

I guess it does posses a kind of "what a waste" pathos when a hot chick dies.  Since even chicks are hot for hot chicks.  ;)

But it is strange when I click on the radar to get the current temp here in Miami and they are trying to scare me with talk about killer blizzards.  Somehow I don't feel threatened.  :)

Coming up with a blizzard is tough sledding in Miami.  :)
