IDEA: predictive text for ms word
« on: May 23, 2006, 01:57 AM »
hi,

Feel free to ignore me if this is more than a coding snacks....

I find the auto-correct function in ms word not that useful, so i am thinking of a small program that just search within a dictionary and suggest closest word as you type. Sort of like T9 predictive text in mobile phone.

I have google this and found programs that does this but with alot more bloated features that i do not need....

Wish all programs (FARR, DialogMove, etc.)were as simple and easy to use found here....

reko100,

Take a look at these two Donation Coder threads, which deal with text expanders, completers and the like:

I might not be understanding completely what you want, but it seems more of an Auto Complete type function.  I recall that someone on this forum mentioned the free Let Me Type - and I believe it lets you import lists of words, too.  Here was the DC thread

What also comes to mind is Slave    This is a program I found at the AHK forums.  You can see some screenshots right in that post.  I thought it was quite, quite neat.  You may want to try it.

Another one you could try with a free trial, but not cheap otherwise, is Shorthand for Windows.  This is also an excellent expander many MTs use.  It's not really an auto completer, but when you use the suggestion window feature, it might as well be one.  You can also do Tcl scripts with it.  This was my first loved professional "visual" expander.  I no longer use it, but think very highly of it.  Very.  The hint window is the other option, only you must put in all the letters of the abbreviation for that to show you the word or phrase.  That's why the suggestion window is so, so much better  (to me).  Here's a link

rjbull, thanks for pointing me to this thread, and thanks for the link, too.   :)

What programs have you found?

hi imtrobin,

i have try IntelliComplete and it works very well for me...i have not encounter any bugs yet, so i will crossed my fingers....

One thing though, i am also using FARR and both programs uses numpad or main digits to make a selection.
So whenever i search in FARR and press a number, it will auto-complete the word for me....

Is there a way to disable IntelliComplete on FARR?

Well, it's a year later now from the last post, LOL, but that YadaByte's portable apps link is great.  I can't wait to try out several programs there!  Thanks!

Hey mouser would it be hard to apply the scoring mechanism of FARR to an app like LetMeType? The sourcecode is available, it seems like LetMeType does not have any scoring mechanism, for example with FARR the results you choose get a higher ranking. Adding this to LetMeType would make it a much more valuable app. Or maybe release something similar as LetMeType but with the FARR engine?

If you are hunting for a tool similar to IntelliComplete, I recommend Typing Assistant.
