hubiC, DropBox like service with interesting pricing
« on: February 07, 2014, 05:09:43 AM »
Via HN, hubiC is what looks like a DropBox like service at a fraction of the cost.

I hope some competition in this market will bring the prices down .

Is there a translated version of their policies?

Don't think so, but you can save the PDF and then upload it to Google Translate.

Some things, I don't trust with translations.  Legal documents are *definitely* one of those things.

2014 version - PDF, still in French.

Honestly, how is replicated data ensuring confidentiality?

Oh, I get that there was somewhere else... but it was strange that the one linked to (and that you agree to) if you sign up is the wrong one.

Well, copy a TrueCrypt container 100 times and you're still looking at the same level of security as you were with having only 1 copy. :)

I have no idea how well they secure the data you upload to their servers, but data replication is not necessarily a degradation of confidentiality.

Redundant storage does not provide privacy, but secure data does not only mean private data.

Also, it could be a plus to some people that the servers are not located in the US.

I don't know if this one is going to be useful, but for unimportant data, 25 GB of free storage is welcome.

@Jibz: thanks for the heads-up! for a 25GB that is free of charge, i wouldn't mind tossing in a few non-critical redundant files.

 (see attachment in previous post)

:D I never noticed that -
they seem to ignore the info anyways:

" Dear Customer,
Welcome to your OVH hubiC!"

and the next mail starts:

"Your hubiC has been just validated and is now active. Nice one!"

I'm confuzzled:

You actually fill in real names and email?
