eM Client 70% off
« on: June 05, 2013, 02:45 AM »
I don't know why eM Client Pro 5 is on offer already, $15 $20 instead of $50. In my memory version 5 is not very new or old, so I am a bit puzzled by the discounted offer on the new, ugly Bits du Jour. Maybe it is just some kind of a hello, we are still alive!...

eM Client 40% off
I went to Bits du Jour to investigate the offer in more details. It turns out that Em Client basically is a freeware program, and it is still being made "outside of Softmaker" - in USA. The only difference I have been able to find between FREE and $50_PRO is "support, commercial use, and more than two accounts" - other than that, they are identical. eM Client 5 PRO is on "fixed discount" via Bits du Jour: 40% off => $29.95 http://www.bitsdujou...software/em-client-5 but "normal" people will only need the free version: http://www.emclient.com/download

This is all very weird to me, being an old Softmaker customer. I feel having been played; why did Softmaker make me pay a lot of money for a freeware program? Yes, my version is "integrated" with Softmaker's suite, and I have not checked if the American original can be installed on top of the German sibling, but in my mind, I feel cheated. Hey, maybe they told me in advance, and I have forgotten

That free version is only a trial, isn't it?  The home version is free, but it seems like there are limitations.

And it can't be used commercially... and support.  That's the extent of the differences between a lot of software use, and I guess that was my point.  There is a difference... so I don't see the problem?

I've been looking at this program. It'd be nice to have access to Google Calendars next to my email.

I don't like that the lifetime license option is another $50 on top of whatever you pay for a Pro license, though.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Free update: eM Client Professional 6 has just been released.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Good news for all users of SoftMaker Office Professional 2012 for Windows: Effective immediately, version 6 of our Outlook alternative eM Client Professional is available, and you receive it as a free-of-charge online update!

Version 6 comes with many improvements over version 5, such as:

- Full support for Microsoft Exchange servers through EWS
- User interface enhanced to support touchscreen computers and tablets
- You can now access calendars on Outlook.com, Hotmail, and Live.
- Improved integration of Google Mail and Google Apps
- You can edit the subject line of incoming e-mail messages.
- The new de-duplication tool finds and removes duplicate e-mails.

... and much more!

Users of SoftMaker Office Professional 2012 for Windows receive this update free-of-charge through the automatic update function of eM Client. Alternatively, click on Help > Check for updates to get it.

Find out more:

-SoftMaker

I have searched the SoftMaker site but couldn't find a link to the eM Client installer, so I've asked their support for one. This direct link to the newest 13.86MB installer will only be available for a brief period of time, before I remove it again: http://www.emclient...._SoftMaker/setup.msi . Notice how the address is not at SoftMaker's...

I will give the guys at SoftMaker credit. Their office suite has been out for a long time and they keep giving their users free updates to eM client. I don't think every company would be generous enough to do that.

I just tried Softmaker's EM for the first time lately - I was impressed.
It was a little buggy in performance terms - I often had to wait for things I would have expected to be instant. (Looking forward to updating to #6.)
