Ghacks.net website asking for donations
« on: December 24, 2013, 09:51:04 AM »
Ghacks.net is one of those independent websites that covers the free software scene, and has frequently featured DonationCoder applications and events.  It's one of our favorite websites.

Martin Brinkman, who runs ghacks, posted today that he is asking users who like the site to make a donation of any amount, which will entitle you to some special benefits on the site.

Quote
"What can be achieved however is to reduce the dependency on advertisement and search engine traffic. My hope is that it is possible to reduce it to a point where I do not have to worry about that at all anymore. Even if all traffic from search engines would die, I'd still be able to maintain this site and keep on doing what I'm doing."

We know how hard it is to raise funds from donations, so let's do our part to support ghacks and small independent sites like his -- go donate now!

The only thing I'll say is that the slider to set your donation amount doesn't work.  It has a box to put your amount in... but it's not accepted.  And the slider is no where near granular enough.  Sent an e-mail so I can donate once its fixed. :(

No, and I tried all sorts of combinations of changing focus, etc.  I was surprised when I got to paypal and it still said $1.

Wraith, which browser and version are you using? I just tested it and it is working fine on my end, using Firefox 29.

And thanks so much Mouser for spreading the word ;)

I just tested it in Chrome 34 and it is working fine. Any script blocking extensions or userscripts that you may be running?

Basically, the slider goes 1,2,9, etc... so I tried to put in 5 and it wouldn't work.  Then tried 5.00 and no dice either.  Then I tried to tab out of the field after setting it... but that didn't work either.  I am using ABP, but have ghacks whitelisted, and the little badge has no numbers indicating blockage, but I'll completely disable it and let you know.

Your payment seems to have come through now. I have changed the maximum limit from 1000 to 100, which should improve the slider's usability.

I guess my ABP filters had gotten messed up.  :-[ Sorry.  Once I disabled ABP completely, it worked.

Thanks!
