Chinese military linked to 'overwhelming' number of cyberattacks
A U.S.-based security research firm says that a building associated with the Chinese military is the source of an "overwhelming" percentage of cyberattacks.

Everyone in their life has known at least 1 kid that as soon as you turned your back, hell would break loose. When you turned around, "It wasn't me!" This reminds me of that.

Dangerous games.

I sincerely hope China doesn't seriously frighten the USA.

For all their intelligence and sophistication, they still fail to grasp how utterly psychotic and violent this country and its leaders can get when seriously frightened. I would have thought the last 12 years alone would have presented enough examples that China wouldn't be so naive as to indulge in ongoing and obvious provocation like they seem to be doing.

I've moved past the angry phase into the feigned apathy (in an almost classical sense) phase. Not really sure how to phrase that properly... Anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. It just helps me to be a bit more stoic and lean towards laughing at the insanity. It's like the Keystone Cops in real life.

Let's play a game of name that dude! :D

“Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we're being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I'm liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That's what's insane about it.”

“We live in a world where we have to hide to make love, while violence is practiced in broad daylight.”

"When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system’s game. The establishment will irritate you – pull your beard, flick your face – to make you fight. Because once they’ve got you violent, then they know how to handle you. The only thing they don’t know how to handle is non-violence and humor."

^ ok...i won't cheat and google...I'm guessing:

40hz answers
 1. Johnny Lennon (may he rest in peace) (I actually knew this one!)

    2. dunno

    3. John again! (Remember this one too!)

So by logical deduction, (and figuring you probably found them all on the same book or web page) is #2 Mr. Lennon also? ;D

Well, 2 different pages, but yes. All the very same!

He can be so beautifully eloquent with insights that while they're often trivially true, at the same time they are deeply profound. I have to simply read them and not reflect too much, otherwise I'm often overwhelmed by them.

Google should randomly fake a fuck load of result pages, that they suspect them to be aiming for...Just basically confuse the shit out of the hackers with random "Government" websites, filled with pictures of cats.

@Ren - Pity that the man himself, as a man, was not up to the same level as many of his insights. But that's what happens when you allow your frustration to get the better of you and turn to bitterness. Which was a shame in his case as he had so much to offer. He could have probably accomplished so much more if he could have contained some of his innate irascibility and his unfortunate tendency to indulge in sarcasm.

But that's also part of what made him what he was, so I guess you have to take the bad with the good when dealing with somebody as complex as he.

Either way, the world is a little sorrier a place now that he's gone. He meant well for the most part. :)

“Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we're being run by maniacs for maniacal ends...

Which makes me want to share this story:

Barack Obama met with the   Queen of England.

He asked her, "Your   Majesty, how do you run such an efficient
government? Are   there any tips you can give me?"

"Well," said   the Queen, "the most important thing is to surround
yourself   with intelligent people."

Obama frowned, and   then asked, "But how do I know the people around me
are really   intelligent?"

The Queen took a sip of tea.   "Oh, that's easy; you just ask them to
answer an intelligent   riddle."

The Queen pushed a button on her   intercom. "Please send Tony Blair in
here, would   you?"

Tony Blair walked into the room and   said, "Yes, Your Majesty?"

The Queen smiled   and said, "Answer me this, please, Tony. Your mother
and   father have a child. It is not your brother and it is not   your
sister.

Who is   it?"

Without pausing for a moment, Tony Blair   answered, "That would be me."

"Yes! Very   good," said the Queen.

Obama went back home   to ask Joe Biden the same question.
"Joe, answer this for me.   Your mother and your father have a child.
It's not your   brother and it's not your sister. Who is   it?"

I'm not sure," said Biden. "Let me get   back to you on that one." He
went to his advisers and asked   everyone, but none could give him   an
answer.

Finally, Biden ran   in to Sarah Palin out eating one night. Biden
asked, "Sarah,   can you answer this for me? Your mother and father have
a   child and it's not your brother or your sister. Who is   it?"

Sarah Palin answered right back, "That's   easy, it's me!"

Biden smiled, and said,   "Thanks!" Then, he went back to speak with
Obama. "Say, I did   some research and I have the answer to that riddle.
It's Sarah   Palin!"

Obama got up, stomped over to Biden,   and angrily yelled into his face,
"No! You idiot! It's Tony   Blair!"

AND THAT IS   PRECISELY WHAT'S GOING ON IN OUR   WHITE
HOUSE!!!

I read on the the FBI "most wanted" page that they now have got an ID photo of the key/lead member of the Chinese hackers doing these cyberattacks. He was snapped in a university Computer Science class photo (see below) - he's the guy with the untidy hair at the back giving the "V" sign, I gather.
I guess it won't be long now before they catch him.

The "Ten Most Wanted" list is more a PR tool than anything else. Moderately useful for outing somebody the FBI wants to let the public know they've (allegedly) ID'ed. Or to show they're "on it!"

Don't know if it's still happens, but back in the 70s, a good number of genuinely bad people (with warrants long outstanding) had an uncanny tendency to get "promoted" to the 'Top 10' whenever capture seemed immanent. Once that practice was pointed put by the press, that high level of coincidence seemed to stop.

Ever since then, I haven't given too much credence to the "ten most wanted" designation. If you casually browse through the two-inch high stack of wanted notices kept on a clipboard still displayed in some post offices - and read the things many of these people are being charged with - singling out ten of the "baddest" almost becomes a joke. Because you really wouldn't want any of these people to be roaming freely.

Knowing the wonders possible with Photoshop...and at the risk of being called "politically incorrect"...is it just me...or does it look like all the faces in that picture might actually be the same face?

Amusingly, there are 5 minutes between @40hz's 1st post (the rant) and his 2nd post above, following the "class photo" one that I did. Apparently dropped pennies do not follow the law of gravity where the velocity (v) of a falling body that falls from rest is found by multiplying g by the time (t) during which a body falls: v = gt
 ;)

I hope it gave rise to a smile anyway.
I blame it on @kyrathaba for lightening up the discussion with his joke about "Barack Obama met with the   Queen of England". It gave me the idea to make an in-context, but rather tongue-in-cheek joke.

Whilst I was making the post, I explained the joke to my wife (she is from the Isaan region of NE Thailand), and she said "Yes! In Thailand we say that Chinese people all look the same too - especially the babies. And it is the same for us Isaan people - we all look the same to Thai people - especially the babies. They can often tell we are from Isaan just by looking at our faces, which have noticeably flatter noses than most Thai people.

It's definitely a 'shop. I can tell by some of the pixels. And from having seen quite a few 'shops in my time!

@40hz's[/b] 1st post (the rant)

It wasn't a rant. It was just me mostly talking to myself in an all too weary tone of voice.

I leave the rants to Renegade. He's so much better at ranting than I'll ever be. And funnier about it too. ;D

Truth is, I never had much talent either for getting or remaining angry. And lately, a growing sense of futility and utter disgust has completely overwhelmed any ability I might have had for getting truly angry.
