Embedding external files into PDF file
« on: February 18, 2013, 04:20 AM »
One can include links to external files in pdfs, but most readers will block execution due to security reasons.
An exception is the TexWorks pdf viewer that comes with MikTeX.
Does anyone know some way to avoid these restrictions or another document formats to create this sort of dynamic books ?

The restrictions are (most likely) imposed by the OS (Windows or Linux) or the pdfreader application used, not by the PDF format.

Check out the options to avoid messages like these, but be aware of any security implications!

thanks for the response but I didn't mean to changing security settings for myself but to a way of creating dynamic books ready to share and open by everyone, maybe there is some other format or rather a trick to bypass these restrictions by using some other software.

You can include the entire content within one PDF and use internal links to jump about. That way there would be no security prompts.

Adobe Acrobat

You can just create links within the document (a bit like anchors on HTML pages).

I can't afford this tool ^^ what I'm trying to do is embed excel links avoiding any security prompts.

Not sure you can do with with PDF files, at least not without a security warning. It wouldn't be a good idea to allow that either (IMHO).

That's why I asked for other ways to embed different kinds of file formats, like an ebook creator. The user wouldn't be asked for opening all these packed files on the ebook.
