Early colour film process

There is an utterly fascinating three part TV series on BBC2 in the UK at the moment about the pioneering film-maker Claude Friese-Greene who, with his father, invented a prototype colour film system in the 1920s. He set of on a journey the lebgth of Britain filming as he went in order to show off his new technique. It was shown in episodes at cinemas and also sold to the US.

The first two (of three) episodes are available for viewing online (only until May 9th though) - and the entire archive of his film is also available to view (it is silent).

The process he used was quite unusal and is explained in some detail in episode 2. Basically the idea was to enable all cinemas to be able to show colour film without having to invest in new equipment. Incredibly innovative.

Add to that the human drama - particularly the lady (ep. 2) who was filmed with her brothers just before her mother died and the family was split, never to be reunited - and it is really something special.

That's awesome!

I just gotta get a proxy type thing in the UK... Does anyone know of such a thing?
