Classic Shell brings back start menu for Win8, plus lots more
(1/1)
Fred Nerd:
I don't know if anyone's played with this yet, but I saw it on Ask Leo and it looks really cool.

Classic Shell is a collection of usability enhancements for Windows. The main features are:
Highly customizable start menu with multiple styles and skins
Start button for Windows 7 and Windows 8
Toolbar and status bar for Windows Explorer
Caption and status bar for Internet Explorer

I tried Classic Shell [CS] on windows 8 and have not been overly impressed - it doesnt recognise the language in use (yes, I changed it, but before CS install). It doesnt look good imo - default symbol looks like an add for Shell. I've tried the styles offered and cant find any that fits in with default 8 install (cant find my CS version number - it's about a month old so may be updateable).
I dont use either Explorer though, and do use FARR, so maybe all it's goodies are a bit wasted on me :)

I uninstalled 3.6.2 (current version is 3.6.5).
Machine would not reboot (went to black screen with cursor).
So I did a system restore via the recovery disk. Now it's installed 'again'.
I'll probably go to their forum when I have the time and ask for a recommendation.
It's obviously to do with Classic Shell, but I do have other tweaks made, so I cant blame it solely.
The dangers of tweaking :-\
