DesktopCoral crashing
« on: December 21, 2012, 03:18 AM »
Hi. I'm trying to use DesktopCoral on Windows 8, and I thought I remember having this issue on Windows 7 as well, but I don't see any topics posted here about my specific issue.

So what happens is everytime I try to "Undock" or drag a docked toolbar away from the edge of the screen, I will just get a message from Windows saying "DesktopCoral.exe has stopped working" and here's what it says under Problem Signature:

"  Problem Event Name:   APPCRASH
  Application Name:   DesktopCoral.exe
  Application Version:   0.0.0.0
  Application Timestamp:   00000000
  Fault Module Name:   USER32.DLL
  Fault Module Version:   6.2.9200.16420
  Fault Module Timestamp:   505a971d
  Exception Code:   c0000005
  Exception Offset:   00023406
  OS Version:   6.2.9200.2.0.0.256.48
  Locale ID:   1033
  Additional Information 1:   ef1a
  Additional Information 2:   ef1a5c26c968aa33f0b7c9bb536b7677
  Additional Information 3:   f900
  Additional Information 4:   f9002b9ed051b6ca19f34e6f061c28ec "

---

Now normally, I wouldn't mind this because once I have a toolbar docked, I don't need to move it, but the main issue I have is that it trips up Windows everytime I'd like to shutdown or restart my computer and I have to click again to tell it to be sure to shutdown. I've tried running it in Administrator mode and under all sorts of different compatibility settings and different combinations of the two, but to no avail.

I don't see how I could be the only one having this issue. Anyone have any suggestions? Or at the least, know of a way to tell Windows to just terminate DesktopCoral's exe without having to prompt me and tell me that it's preventing Windows from shutting down at first? Thank you

Hey over there,

I have the same problem and I don't know how to solve. Maybe Microsoft has made changes in the "user32.dll" (I think so) and that causes DesktopCoral to crash. I hope that there will be version that works fine in Windows 8 because all other apps I tried to reach the same result as DesktopCoral are disappointing...

Greetings!

Hmm this is odd, i will try to reproduce.

Do either of you using my Launchbar Commander tool? Does the problem occur with that too?

Hey mouser,

thank you! For me it works perfectly. Just installed it and no problems while undocking/docking or applying new settings to my reserved space on screen.

Happy xmas :)

Wow! I hadn't checked back to this thread for quite some time and after I was still getting annoyed by it, I did a google search for it again to find this thread i had started and your response.

I was confused for a long time because it still said version 1.10.01 on the download page, but I did a quick uninstall and redownloaded the setup, and it works great!

Hi Mouser,

I'm not sure if it's related to my PBOL problem,

https://www.donation...;topicseen#msg359571

but DesktopCoral crashes several times a day on my Win7, 64-bit system. Normally I just restart the process and that takes care of it, so it's not a massive issue, just a minor inconvenience. But I'm wondering why it might be happening so often.

The program should not be crashing.  Are you using the latest version?
If its happening several times a day I will send you a debug version so we can try to track down the cause; email me ([email protected]).

Are you using the latest version?

I think so (v1.10.01). I've just emailed you.

Just to clarify further, when I restart or wake my PC, DC is running in the background (visible in processes and icon is in tray), but it's not doing the corralling. I have to restart the process, and then it pushes my other windows down, as it should be. The reason it's an issue is because my Samurize banner is visible at the top of my screen (which DC is supposed to corral), so the tops of my windows are obscured by Samurize, which makes it difficult to move them, close them, minimise them etc.

It's not a big deal to restart the DC process, but I was just wondering why this is happening (whether it's something with my system or something with DC). I should add that my PC has been prone to crashing when it's woken from sleep, so it's also possible that I might be having a deeper system problem at my end.
