Firstly, we read this: http://www.theage.co...-20121217-2bi2e.html

Police are appealing for witnesses to a horrific crash in Melbourne's leafy eastern suburbs.

A 24-year-old Maroochydore man is in The Alfred hospital after his car burst into flames, having ploughed through a fence and a pole before smashing into a tree in Toorak on Sunday night.

Police believe it was a single-car crash. Investigators have been told a white Ford Falcon was travelling west on Malvern Road before the driver lost control near Orrong Road hitting a fence, a pole and then a tree before catching on fire about 10.20pm.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and the man, who was the only person in the car, was taken to The Alfred hospital where he is now in a stable condition.

"How are these linked?" I hear you ask!

Well...That hand, is Renegades...and it is stitched up, because he pulled somebody out of the burning car!

Things like this should be highlighted, to show, that here on DC, we have true heroes!

Title is mainly to embarrass him, but, in all honesty, its still a VERY brave thing to do!

Especially because cars on fire have a certain tendency to explode.

Whatever you do don't let Uncle Sam figure out you were the superhero behind the mask. He'll make you into his chewtoy, and your hard won freedom will vanish against your new-found fame as the media nitpicks every detail about your life. When they're done parading you around, you disappear because they'll have figured out who you really stand for.

Still, well done if that really was your handiwork.

Lucky he's not in the USA then - we have Aunty Jackw here.

That has definite Basement material in it that is likely to be inflammatory for some people.

Anyways, I wanted to get it down along with some of the thoughts that were speeding through my head at the time, and wrote it up here:

I left out the grizzly parts as they're better forgotten.

Aaaaannnd... Looks like I popped a stitch. I've splinted it, so back to slow typing again.

Just remember, if you didn't get a copy of at least one of the dozen or so smartphone videos that were undoubtedly happening, it didn't happen.

That was a riveting read.. A genuinely heroic act.
We should all be so brave if we find ourselves in such a situation.

Thanks for posting that Phil. I hadn't seen those.

I just found this:

A news report on it. I'd not seen it as we don't have a TV at home.

I remember the one fellow in there, Francis Armstrong (from the video), spraying the hose there. The cool water was certainly welcome. My thoughts there were about thanking god there was some kind of fire retardant to help us.

The fellow that helped pull him out, I remember him afterwards at the side of the road, but don't remember talking to him. (I should walk down the street and say hello.) I wasn't even looking at anyone else, and only saw him after I'd gone back home, washed the blood off, and come back. I couldn't have gotten that fellow out without help there. I was just too fixated at the time.

One of the people in the news video said, "I'll never forget the guy, um, like smashing his window from the outside, trying to scream for his life." I do hope he remembers to vote libertarian~! :P (Sorry... Had to sneak that in~! :P )

Phil, thank you for that. It meant a lot to me and I really appreciate it. I was a bit busy to record any video there. :D

It was a pretty traumatic event for me as I'm not used to that.

Wow - just an amazing story.  My hat's off to you!

I hope I never find myself in such a situation (either in or out of the car), but if that happens I hope that someone like you is around.

Renegade, I feel humbled.

Sometimes it takes a Cynic (in the best, and maybe only, sense of the word) to take action and show true, tangible compassion while people with rosy, tender values stand there doing nothing.
English will never be my first language, it doesn't meter how hard I try.
