Microsoft Trolls The Trolls In Latest IE10 Ad
« on: November 30, 2012, 07:31 PM »
The folks at Microsoft have just released a clever commercial for Internet Explorer 10, the latest version of the company’s once dominant web browser which has seen great competition from Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox over the past few years. The ad puts you in the perspective of a true troll — dual-screens, a windowless room, old take-out boxes, and a penchant for spewing hate anonymously — and this troll hates IE10 (and Internet Explorer on the whole) with vehemence.

Throughout the ad, you see this dude follow the news on IE10, like any good troll would. Each time Microsoft posts something good (“IE10 is now on Xbox 360″ or “Gizmodo hearts IE10″) our protagonist stands firm in his belief system, that IE10 has lost relevance.

His hatred is an overstatement. If you don’t like IE, you simply don’t use it. But that doesn’t mean it’s dead in the water. NetMarketshare reports that IE8 and IE9 alone account for around 25 percent of the market as of October, a nearly 10 percent lead over Google Chrome 22, which holds 15 percent of the market. This makes sense considering that Chrome automatically updates, whereas users have to opt-in to update Microsoft’s browser.

Ah... Now I see... They ditched the legacy code and started over. Finally. Trident was, well, you know.

Jokes aside, it was a refreshing commercial .

Though perhaps they should have waited with it until IE10 for Windows 7 was ready .. even if I wanted to try it, that IE10 site only has a download button for IE9.

Hmm...maybe Microsoft should thank Mozilla for so neatly and repeatedly dropping the ball in order to create this opportunity for IE.

Which is good. Because Mozilla has strayed from much which made them so good originally - and many have felt they were long overdue for a wake up call. And since they don't seem to be listening to their users all that much, maybe they'll take a 'shot across the prow' from Microsoft a bit more seriously.

When products truly compete, they get better.

And we all benefit from that.

^suggest you watch the movie Schindler's List.

I'm not another Richard Stallman. I'll take doing some good or making things better where and from whoever provides it. I never saw the point of refusing something just because the offer wasn't "pure" enough to suit my own philosophical and political attitudes.  :P

Sorry I don't get the add - are MS actually saying IE9 was crap but IE10 is a little less crap?

How do we speed up IE9? Don't change IE 9 just disable ALL thirdparty (and MS) extensions !!!! Confuses the hell out of people I meet.

How do we speed up IE10 - just don't let people install extensions at all - just put up with all the missing features MS don't think you need!

I don’t use Opera very often, but up till now all I have seen is those terrible Opera Gadgets - kinda weak, extension-wanna-be's.

I have had LastPass installed in Opera for at least 18 months. Not that I use Opera much - just don't like it!
