Usage
Installation
Run the installer. No special considerations.

Using the Application
The easiest and fastest way to use it is to right-click on a photo, then choose the Photo Resizer context menu item.

Keyboard shortcuts are available in the help file.

Otherwise, you only need to look at the application to know how to use it.

DEFAULT PHOTO SAVE FOLDER - ORIGINAL PHOTO FOLDER

*** Photos are saved by default to the same folder as the original photo, and renamed with an easy to identify name. This is customizable in the preferences (F4).

Uninstallation
Run the uninstaller through the Windows Control Panel.

Tips
Use the free license key here:

ZQSZ-7VE4-F3UE-ZPM7-DG99-A2UN-K4BA-8FY8-Y6CJ-UZS6-PQ5A-BR8U-C783-ND45-DRRM-RG54-7HC4-YQBE-QW56-QUX8-TGKL-6SJ3-BGQX-K54W-KTD8-2QCV-435M-ZYJU-9GM5-9J26-6793-C7G6

Press CTRL + L to enter the license key.

TO CROP FAST
1) Resize first.
2) Position the upper-left corner.
3) Resize the Photo Resizer window for the lower-right corner.

Known Issues
The help file isn't perfectly up to date. Some images are older, and some functionality isn't documented, but all the most important ones are.

Facebook albums prior to timeline are not in the dropdown menu. This will not be fixed. This is Facebook breaking their own API. New albums appear as would be expected.

NO OPEN CANDY
Previously I received some fairly extreme criticism for having Open Candy in the installer of the last version. This version DOES NOT have Open Candy in the installer. However, to be perfectly clear, that decision had nothing to do with previous criticism.

Looks terrific.  Can we get a commandline invocation method where we can pass it a file path? If so a .sctool could be created for my Screenshot Captor tool, which would be nice.

Yuppers. Already in there:

C:\Some\Path>"C:\Program Files (x86)\Photo Resizer\PhotoResizer.exe" "C:\Another\Path\SomePhoto.jpg"

i.e.

PhotoResizer.exe photo.jpg

BTW - Where is the info to create a .sctool? Just found it...

(With due chops to Renny!)
This is clearly the important part of that original photo.
I have cropped it with ScreenShotCaptor and Stickies, and uploaded it to Social Media site DonationCoder.

mouser, I can't seem to get it to work properly. I've got this:

title = Photo Resizer
app = %ProgramFiles%\Photo Resizer\PhotoResizer.exe
params = "%file%"
iconfile =

In app, I used the full path initially (with quotes). Am I missing something?

I've actually been using it inside of Screenshot Captor already, simply through right-clicking on the image.

That tool as you have it above worked fine for me (XP x64); I wonder if it could be a problem with me not handling new OS thing right.  What OS are you on?  And when you say you can't get it to work properly, what exactly do you mean.

I'm on Windows 7 x64. The program opened up, but the photo screenshot that was currently displayed was not in Photo Resizer. It had the default, blank interface.

I updated from 3.0.0 to 3.8.1, saw 2 entries, and noticed this:

"%file%"

The quotes there. However, that was from a directory and file that I created, and not from editing in the SC UI.

It's working for me now though.

EDIT:

I played around a bit, and yes - it was the quotes. Without them, spaces in the path presented a problem. (Guessing there.)

Using Photo Resizer at full screen hides this option a bit.
I can still click on it, by grabbing the very top of the 'OK' box.
A good option for exact Crop Size, nice!

I tried to hide as much complexity as possible, but leave it open for those that want a bit more. Pretty much all of that extra stuff is hidden in shortcut keys. It's all in the Help file. (I might have missed a few... don't remember at the moment...)

These are all of the shortcuts:

A
Add
B
D
F12
F2
F3
F4
F5
K
L
L && Control
L && Shift
OemMinus
Oemplus
R
S
S && Alt
S && Control
S && Shift
Subtract
U

Most are in the Help. Nothing is destructive, so they are all safe to use and experiment with.

I was looking for something like this, but with two additions:
- I would like to do this in batch, handling all jpg's in a single folder
- I would like to make the colored square picture and greyscale square picture

So whenever I shoot a series of 10 pictures, my aim would be run something like this and have 30 pictures at the end. I would be OK with automated cropping, but I would not mind cropping each one myself. The process of savind the copies in specific names would help me A LOT (something like Image001.jpg -> Image001c.jpg & Image001bw.jpg).

Would you be willing to add this? That would be great!

While I'd like to say yes, I can't. I purposefully designed the program to be for single images with no possibility for batch processing. The idea was to make a very simple, fast, intuitive piece of software that you only need 1 brain cell to use. All complexity is hidden, though a fair bit is available through keyboard shortcuts (I didn't want to visually clutter the UI).

It would be faster and easier to simply write a batch processing program, which I can't do at the moment as I'm working on an audio project.

If I have time, I'll check into whether it is feasible to add in image filters (e.g. greyscale). I can see how I could add that in and have it be very unobtrusive and simple.

I probably should mention that the program keeps track of your uploads for you and lets you create a simple report so that you can find the original upload URLs:

Simply press "R" to get there.

How did you decide on what resizing (scaling?) algorithm to use?

...and what did you decide on? :)

How did you decide on what resizing algorithm to use?

...and what did you decide on? :)

That was very simple.

There are 2 different resizes happening:

1) Live preview
2) Saved image

The live preview uses low quality, fast resizing for a smoother UI. It reduces the CPU required. The live preview resizes as you do the resizing, so it's important for it to be fast. (I forget if I did another high quality update after the resize...)

For saving, high quality bicubic is used. Basically, maximum quality.

I use it all the time whenever I post a pic to Facebook or need to resize a picture because it's just faster & easier than fiddling with menus and buttons and whatever. I just wanted to get things done fast. I also like high quality resizing. :D

But, the decisions there were purely about getting maximum quality output and minimum CPU usage when previewing.

@Marcel25,
You may want to check this out from freewaregenius.
For batch resizing.

http://www.freewareg...agging-and-dropping/

A few other nice programs in the software link in 'the program page'.

Just an FYI - I've updated the license there, so they're basically unlimited now. I'd forgotten to remove that restriction. Just stick it in again:

Thanks for your program; just to let you know of a couple of points I noticed when I started using it.

- I tried entering this license key but got an error message that it had been used too many times!

- I also tried changing the quick save preferences: the resize file name saves ok, but the cropped file name does not save changes and always reverts to default.

Cheers!  :beerchug:

It's going to take me a bit to get that fixed. Still working on it...

I'm on a new Windows installation, and it will take me some time to get everything that I need for the program installed and setup, so I can't get a quick recompliation out just yet.

However, I did check on it, and the problems isn't that it isn't saved... The problem is that I forgot to update the UI there. So, if you set it, it's set. But, if you go back, check on it, "see" that it's not updated, AND then click ok, it will resave it with the default value and erase your settings.

hi Ren,
I get the message:

---------------------------
The following applications are required before setup can continue:
    .NET 4.0 Full Framework (3 MB - 197 MB)
---------------------------

now,
when I look, I have this installed:
==================================================
Entry Name          : Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile
Installation Date   : 2011-08-18 16:08:17
Installation Folder : C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\SetupCache\Client
==================================================

I understand that that's like a mini-version of the NET framework,
so it looks like I'll have to install the full version. Is that correct?
Do you know if it's generally okay to install the full version on top of this version?

Tom
