DONE: Organize the Taskbar, organize the System Tray

:) Have you tried Taskbar Shuffle? It even lets you rearrange grouped buttons!
added: full support for XP button grouping -- this was so annoying and took quite a bit of effort.. hooray for me

It's not mine, I have made a similar tool, but I couldn't understand the memory contents of the grouped buttons...

Pretty cool, Skrommel!
I suggest you try the app skrommel mentioned.
Even though it consumes more memory and doesn't allow buttons to be dragged out of the start bar, it is way more updated (still maintained!), has support for groupped windows and has a feature that was requested some time ago here on DC as a coding snack: close a window on middle click. (oh, and did i say it looks good? :P)
It has no love for GridMove, though... Might be time to update gridmove.. :(

This may be slightly off-topic, but there is an utility called Tray Module - http://am-productions.biz/getprod.php?pcode=TrayModule&showall=1 which creates a floating system tray. You could then hide the tray in the taskbar and create more space. Unfortunately it doesnt work well with XP. If anyone could create something similar that would be awesome.
P.S: The site has a lot of cool utilities.

I have been using Taskbar Shuffle for about 6 months now and I think it is (in my opinion) the easiest app for moving tray buttons. Nice GUI, automatic grouping options and good looking...but lacks the ability to move notification area icons (I emailed the creator about this, it may be introduced soon).
