Steve Ballmer's Dilemma

(1/1)

wraith808:
A new article on Cringely (I, Cringely formerly of InfoWorld fame), hits it on the spot, with a few zingers to boot!  He doesn't always get it right, but I love his deconstruction of the industry.

One of my favorites from this article:
Like Blanche DuBois, Microsoft has relied on the kindness of strangers.

--- End quote ---

(And, just for clarification, I don't totally agree with the article.  But it has a glimmer of truth, even if just partial and perceived- especially when it comes to the consumer market.)

IainB:
Very deep.
In the photo you provide, Steve Ballmer appears to be making two Fibonacci ("Golden") spirals with his hands. I wonder if that has any more-than-coincidental meaning in terms of the Fibonnaci spiral made by hurricane Sandy lately? (Balmer's an Illummumino-something - right?)
For example, from here: (This is so WOW!)

Oh, wait...or maybe not - e.g., here.
Bugger. Another myth debunked. I hate that.

... ;D

wraith808:
I don't know.  I looked at it as an in media res look at this final product...

 ;D

IainB:
^ - Nice Fibonaccies!    ;D
But it's only just some dude with his fingers in his ears.
And the earlier pic is just some dude waving his fingers/hands around in the air.

Mind you, I'd probably start waving my hands about like that - and a lot more strange things too - if I carried the enormous responsibility for keeping a behemoth like M$oft from running off the rails. And I suspect that I'd be well past the point where I was doing it for the money.

wraith808:
Well, I figured that the waving might be the motion before he put his hands in his ears :)  After all, there must be a reason he has such a hard time hearing anyone other than himself...
