Copy image as JPG to clipboard
« on: September 12, 2012, 04:51 AM »
Can I ask if it's possible to add a feature to capture the image as JPG to clipboard please?
So that when I paste the image into Powerpoint it is in JPG and not DIB format?
It really helps to keep the powerpoint size down.

I know I can use insert image in powerpoint,
but it does save a bit of time to be able to paste as JPG instead of inserting the saved JPG file.

I think for the average user who simply capture and paste into e.g. word/outlook,
it's might also be a good idea to have a JPG clipboard format option to save on the file size.

Of course it's not too much trouble for me to use insert image,
so if this feature is not easy to add then it it's completely ok :)

That is quite easy:
- Open Preferences
- On the page 'Image File Format' you can select JPG (if you want jaggies in your screenshots) or PNG (for very nice and compact screenshots)
- On the page 'Post-Capture Options' you can select 'Post Capture - Actions' / 'Copy Image to Clipboard', and set other options to your wishes

JPG is a compressed format for saving pictures. On opening a jpg the full color and pixel information are restored in memory.
Clipboard pastes always this full information.
For reducing the powerpoint file size ('til PP 2003) you've to insert a saved JPG.

Up from office 2010 (maybe 2007, not checked) powerpoint and the other office apps can compress a copied picture from the clipboard
so that you don't have to care about the source of the picture.

Just to note that the default saving (AFAIK) is in png, *not* in bmp format.
PNG will not go as small as a compressed JPG but the quality is a lot better, especially for graphics which would include most screenshots.

... but you may know all this already ;-)
