great work superboyac, sounds exactly like a radio show theme music should!
maybe we could get a theme for the general show not just your segment?

anyone else want to try to come up with some musical themes we can use instead of fighting with copyright stuff?

Thanks.  I'll record it again soon so it doesn't sound so muddled.  Sorry Carol, no singing.  I'm not much of a singer, and I don't write lyrics.

Mouser, if I can, I can try to come up with another theme for the general show, but it'll have to be a little later.  I'm not that good at coming up with my own melodies, I've listened to and know so many songs that whenever I try to come up with something new, 3 seconds later it starts sounding like something else I know.  The curse of having so much music accessible in these modern times.

mouser, here is one attempt for the main theme of the podcast, let me know if you like it or not.  In case you haven't noticed, I have really old fashioned musical sensibility.  You won't hear too much stuff that sounds like it came within the last 25 years from me.  I haven't named this song yet, so feel free to come up with titles.

If you guys like it, I'll record it again, and polish it up.

i received a fantastic segment from zaine for the radio show, so we're making progress.
but we still need more segments!!

i'd love to hear some man (or woman) in the street interviews with just normal people walking down the street.. reminder: there will be a nice prize for best such entry!

superboyac rocks the house.... er.. um at least jazzes it.

That's a fun little song.  Very catchy, almost familiar, not too imposing.  Good stuff for radio pod casting.

ok i've received two excellent opinionated segments from zaine and housetier, but we still need more and the deadline is approaching fast!

i'm dying to get some funny man-on-the street (or woman-on-the-street) interviews, or something else fun and creative about software.

i'd also like to find people who are willing to conduct (and record) phone interviews with donationware authors or other people involved in software development.  if you are such a person please contact me asap.

OK oK!  I'll try to have my segment by the end of the week.  FYI, I'm planning on having my first "rant" be about user interfaces.

If I played a song quietly throughout the podcast segment (low volume, while I spoke over it), would there be any copyright restrictions on that?  Or should I just stay away from this can of worms?

definitely dont play a song other than the one you wrote in the background -
even if it wasnt a copyright problem - better to do that stuff in post production digitally.

well, of course I meant post production, even for my song.  Cmon, I'm a computer geek!
Seriously, I was asking about the copyright issue, but I guess I'll forget about it for now.  I helped a friend of mine do a radio show once, and I think I remember there being something like if you played a clip for 15 seconds or less, it was free, but anything more would require loyalties.  Oh well...

If you wrote the song you can use it however you want. You own the copyright, after all.

I meant if I used other people's songs.  But I think I'll avoid that for now.

By the way, I tried recording my rant yesterday, and it didn't work out so well.  It's tough talking to yourself, I found out.  I'll have to try again, I guess.

believe it or not we almost have enough audio for the first podcast.

but i still need one or two more fun things.

won't someone try a "man-on-the-street" interview??  i'm dying for one!!!!

i will promise a special prize to anyone who submits such a recording
(read above for description: basically you go on the street and ask people questions about thei computer experiences, or to define freeware/shareware/opensource/donationware), trying to get some funny reactions.

and all you last minute stragglers please record something and send it to [email protected] or ftp it anonymously to ftp.donationcoder.com

superboyac, your comments were on user interfaces are SO TRUE to my experience! And how come all the Germans speak English so damn well, and when I speak German, I sound like an idiot? (Don't answer that.) Loved the GrokLaw review, and had some great laughs over every segment. Even the music is funny, reminding me of a split between David Lynch movie theme and Public Broadcasting on a Saturday!

Thanks to all the contributors, notably the "first computer" segment. I absolutely can't wait to hear from others in the second broadcast, er, podcast.

I couldn't agree more on the user interface rant -- and while I thoroughly enjoyed the blue man group rant, I have to interject -- their face paint, albeit absurd, makes perfect sense within the context of the instruments they [build and] play.

The whole podcast was great -- way to go, guys. It's gold.

Seriously, you Germans can speak English very well!

The podcast was fun, it was fun hearing the guys we read from all the time.  Allen, to be honest, I've never seen the blue people show besides whatever is on the commercial.  But I still think it's a tad pretentious, but then again, I'm a very practical, left-brain guy (I think that's the correct side of the brain, I don't really know).  On a similar note, the new Burger King guy with the costume and mask scares me also.  Kind of like Michael from halloween, except with a burger (or cup of Joe) in his hand instead of a knife.

As a native german audio submitter to our DCPodCast #1, i first must thank you for all the kind words about our "german-english". That was my biggest concern, that i only make you laugh with my spoken english. Err, okay...with my "Just for Grins" segment i wish that i have made you laugh of course.  :D

I really enyoyed the podcast and love it. The in-between music is great (Thx. SuperBoyAC) and can't say enough, how much i must agree with the "free but only  free downlad" and the "bulky-skin" rants. Never heard of groklaw so far...but i sure will visit them soon.

It was real fun to hear the voices behind the scenes. And last but not least i am glad to hear, that i am not the only "computer dinosaur" here in the community.  ;D

Thanks to all other contributors for giving our first podcast such a good start. Hope we can make it a regular thingy here for a long time.

Only one wish to the native english speaking people from me: Please talk a little bit slower. Almost for me i often have to hear a segment multiple times to get it all because it is spoken a little bit too fast. No offense here. It's only a wish. TIA!

i've just got around to listening to the podcast. quite magical to hear some of the people around here for the first time.

my compliments to all involved - and it really seemed over before it had begun - i was enjoying it so much.

i hope there will be more content submitted for the next one, now that everyone has got a better idea of what to expect.
