how to catch streaming video?
« on: July 13, 2012, 07:04 AM »
Tonight (in 6 hours from now) Denmark is playing the final match for the World Championship in Beach Handball for women (against Brazil). The match is being streamed and I would like to keep the video. However, to my surprise Firefox VideoHelper will merely catch small blocks (from 16kb to 237kb) from the stream, not the entire video. I have no experience in catching video streams, so I have come to ask for 'your' advice, please.

We can test your ideas via http://www.dhf.dk/Pr...e_4_x_landskamp_live
>> scroll to the red lines; there are also links to other (normal handball) matches being played,
or via http://spengerevent....se.at/hem2012stream/ (click "LIVESTREAM HARD" in the right margen)(playing right now as I type).

How about using FRAPS or Camtasia or some other screen recorder that will also allow you to record sound from your computer at the same time.

-thanks
The idea was simple and easy to test, but... just one minute of using Camtasia 5 => 275MB,
so screen capturing for 1½ hour surely must produce a gigantic² filesize!
or not ?

oh, wait
- I realize I can settle with one file per period. Okay, this will be manageable.

Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure if it will work like you hope, I do however, think FRAPS would work.  Both are NOT free however, unless you want huge limitations.

FRAPS is tempting, but I have a FREE key for the old Camtasia 5 (from 2008), so even it now is at version 8, it will do for now; a video is merely a video... or something.

Test it with a youtube video or something first to make sure it captures correctly.

I grabbed 4:19 minutes, before the connection was gone ("‎Over license connection limit"), and this little was 1GB!

Brazil's number 3 is not some kind of midget or otherwise mini-sized,
this is just how it often looks when normal sized people are standing between athletes...:

-here singing their national hymn.

Brazil showed Denmark that there still is quite a distance between number 1 and 2, so we took silver...

The city of Randers in Denmark is to host the 2013 edition of the Men’s, Women’s and Younger Age Category European Beach Handball Championships.
-European Handball Federation

-the Brazilian team will of course not be part of this event, but still I wonder how the south European teams will cope with the Danish lack of summer heat...: we may stand a chance to become the next European Champions!
