NoteTab 7 editors released

rjbull:
Sounds like he mainly just tweaked a lot of little things, unless I'm missing something. Doesn’t sound much different than Version 6.-J-Mac (July 11, 2012, 11:42 PM)

There is an element of that; it certainly doesn't look a revolutionary change.  But there are nice details, e.g. Use CTRL+ALT+V to paste Clipboard data in HTML format (if available).

As an example, I copied a bit of Barney's post to the clipboard in the usual way, and pasted it into NoteTab Pro 7 with Ctrl+V as usual, getting:

Insert Quote
It likes CSS3, HTML5  Thmbsup.
Added CSS highlighting, maybe better HTML highlighting  Thmbsup.
Search has improved, somewhat  undecided.
Word count is a bit different  undecided.
Then I pasted it with Ctrl+Alt+V:
<tr class="catbg"><td colspan="2" class="smalltext" align="left">Posted by: barney
                        </td>
                     </tr><tr class="windowbg2">
                        <td colspan="2" class="smalltext" id="msg293413" width="100%">
                           <div class="smalltext" align="right"><a href="https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?action=post;quote=293415;topic=31542.0;sesc=8e3bf8f4c51f55147c9c47cbcd65dc09#top" onclick="return insertQuoteFast(293413);">Insert Quote</a></div>
                           <div class="post">It likes CSS3, HTML5  <img src="https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/Smileys/fun/Thmbsup.gif" alt="Thmbsup" border="0">.<br>Added CSS highlighting, maybe better HTML highlighting  <img src="https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/Smileys/fun/Thmbsup.gif" alt="Thmbsup" border="0">.<br>Search has improved, somewhat  <img src="https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/Smileys/fun/sleepy.gif" alt="undecided" border="0">.<br>Word count is a bit different  <img src="https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/Smileys/fun/sleepy.gif" alt="undecided" border="0">.</div></td></tr>
Using NoteTab's pre-existing Modify > Strip HTML Tags > Preserve URLs feature then gives:
It likes CSS3, HTML5  <https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/Smileys/fun/Thmbsup.gif>.
Added CSS highlighting, maybe better HTML highlighting  <https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/Smileys/fun/Thmbsup.gif>.
Search has improved, somewhat  <https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/Smileys/fun/sleepy.gif>.
Word count is a bit different  <https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/Smileys/fun/sleepy.gif>.
which I thought would be useful for copying things into a plain-text outliner like MemPad, retaining the links.

They have never had downloads generally available - you always got a link to the full version that was active all the time.-J-Mac (July 11, 2012, 11:42 PM)

I don't like that either, and there's a steady if sluggish stream of worried queries in the Yahoo! Group, what do I do if I lose my original full version.

Hey, thanks for the concept :Thmbsup:.

Fookes has tried more product delivery methods over the years than I'd care to count  :o.  He seems to be one (1) of the oh-so-many developers that fear the world will end if even one (1) product gets distributed w/o remuneration  :P.

He should look at how EditPad Pro (Just Great Software/JGSoft) does it: http://www.editpadpro.com/download.html

You put in the email address the software was registered to and the 'user ID' you get when you buy the software, and the licensed installer (with your license details embedded in it) gets generated and downloaded.

I think I still prefer generic installers that install as a trial until you enter a key. That way, if the vendor goes away due to whatever circumstances, you still have a hope of finding an installer somewhere that'll work.  Admittedly, that's  a pretty rare scenario, so it's not something that keeps me awake at night.  But given a choice...

However, for those times where the vendor wants to provide you with a separate, registered installer that has your info 'burned' into it, the scheme that JGSoft uses is pretty slick.  And they don't charge you again/extra for something you already bought.

J-Mac:
I don’t know if you can get another setup file if you lose it and didn't purchase the "extended download" crap! I've been fortunate, which is probably helped by being overly cautious with my setup files. But you know if anything were ever to happen, it'll happen with the one program that won't let you download again!

I have several [very] old programs that I can no longer run just because of that particular method.  I cannot begin to recall the email address I had at the time, nor the user ID  :(.  It's reasonable scheme, but it has its own downside(s).  Mostly the currency (and I don't mean money) of the product.
