Helllo folks , this is another query :

 u see i have installed Win7 on my Second partition and for some reason my xp partition is not able to boot properly and now i have restored my xp partition from clonezilla which made my win 7 boot manager to be lost , i tried using the win7 boot disc and used these commands but was not able to restore it......
i initially used this command to backup the bootini of win7 (i.e., when i used from Win7 Boot Disc):

[Select]

bcdedit /export backupbcd.bcd

but after the restoration of winxp then using this command  didn't work (i.e., when i used from Win7 Boot Disc):

[Select]

bcdedit /import backupbcd.bcd

(For this which i believe was lost in the restoration of winxp )



I also used this command but couldn't get this command to work:

[Select]

To do this, type the following commands at the Windows RE command prompt:
bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd

So now i am on Winxp partition and my Win7 partition is untouched and only the boot manager is absent, can i use the Win7 Boot Disc to restore the win7 boot manager: hope my query is understandable,,,,,,

Boot from it and go into the repair tools (at the bottom of the initial install screen) and use startup repair - that should rebuild the boot configuration.

The trouble with the first two is I think you need to boot into windows 7 to use them ???

Thanks for posting the third link - the automated method is the one I mentioned above and is by far the simplest.

I don't have good experience with the Automated Startup Repair.
But this sounds useful in the situation:

Replacing the Windows XP Bootloader with Windows 7

If you’ve managed to install XP on the same PC that you already had Windows 7 on, you’ll noticed that you can’t boot into Windows 7 anymore. You can use this command to fix that and restore the Windows 7 bootloader:

    

bootsect /nt60 all

Depending on the partition that you’ve installed, you might need to substitute the drive letter instead of “all”.

hello folks i  tried everything possible i tried this  Manually repair Win7 Boot menu :


But i am still not able to reapiar the winxp to the Win 7 Boot menu:

Can you provide more info, ie. a screengrab of the Disk Manager, (from XP or use bootable partition manager media), showing all drives and partitions connected to the computer.

If there is more than one drive, highlight the drive that the system is supposed to be booting from.

For one last time i used this command :

To add Winxp to Win7 Boot Menu:

bcdedit /create {ntldr} /d "Windows XP"
bcdedit /set {ntldr} device partition=D:
bcdedit /set {ntldr} path \ntldr
bcdedit /displayorder {ntldr} addlast

I went to c:\windows\system32\....  where bcdedit.exe resides: , from their i used this command:
Now it shows the Win7 Boot Menu, and i can now boot to Winxp but their is the option of Booting to Win7 Recoveredd, where i just go the Recovery menu of the Win7 but can't boot Win7 Desktop....
