SC crashes on right-click
« on: April 04, 2006, 03:35 AM »
i was using SC v2.11.02 when i noticed this, whenever i tried to right-click on an image in the thumbnail browser the program would crash. wondering whether was it just me or does anyone else experience this behaviour?

on another note, how do i permanently unselect crop-marks on a screen-shot? i tried unselect from the Edit menu but it appears again after some time, when i click on that screen-shot after clicking on another thumbnail. refer to the screenshot:

you can turn off re-selecting:

as far as the crashing - the right click should bring up the shell menu.. can you see if your normal windows explorer crashes on right click of similar images?

Mouser: this is the usual problem, already discussed about the thumbnail viewer.
lanux: don't be scared, that happens to everyone, after a few right-clicks, the program goes bananas. Don't worry about it, just avoid right-clicking. If you use it for sending stuff with come sort of imageshack's quickload, you might consider using the brand new SC's ftp uploader plugin ;)

nope, on windows explorer the context-menu works normally.

Unfortunatelly, there's no way to use that tool to upload to imageshack, it can only be used to upload to ftp servers. If you don't use an ftp server, you can use imageshack's quickload, which is quite fast to use and easy, but crashes SC... :(

aah, i thought so... i use imageshack's quickload too, that's how i "discovered" the right-click bug... ;)
in any case since i've filed the bug, fingers crossed that mouser will fix it soon enough. in the meantime, have to manage with quickshot...

I experienced a quite similar behaviour: when I right click on a thumbnail in the "Thumbnail Browser", Screenshot Captor pops up a windows that says "Error! Cannot find Objekt "[filename]" in folder D:\". So it is impossible to do a right click on a screenshot file, after the program comes up with this error. What confuses me most is, that my screenshot folder is "d:\temp\screenshots", so why the hell does Screenshot Captor searches for the file in d:\? Maybe the program's author should look into the option "Screenshot folder" in the program's preferences!?

take a microsoft component and stick it into a decent app and right away it collapses... maybe it's time to do away with the explorer pane.. eh, mouser?

It's a custom component written by somebody else, not Microsoft - hold back on the flamehorse ;)

i forgot to mention this earlier..

i had a suspicion that the crashes were due to other software that hook onto explorer's context-menu and thus conflicts with SC's thumbnail pane. so to confirm this, i uninstalled all 3rd party shell extensions & tried them one at a time.. in the end, it was a "CopyPath" shell extension causing the problem, because after that there are no more right-click crashes.. :)

Note: SC version 2.28.01

well that's your problem right there.

all self-respecting blue-e-eating-fire-foxes know that the best copy path shell extension is:
Ninotech Path Copy 4.0 - http://home.worldonl...inotech/freeutil.htm

it has a unique feature: Append filepath to Clipboard. which means you can copy different filepaths one by one and it will all snowball into the same clipboard item..

in any case, i'm still using it. i just refrain from right-clicking in SC's thumbnail pane..
