IDEA: Image Metadata Enhancer/Saver
« on: March 31, 2006, 09:50 PM »
hello everyone

I think it would be awesome to know that everytime I saved an image to my hard drive from the internet there would be some pertinent info stored with the image (ie. right-click on file, properties, summary tab, comments box)

that way I could use an image as a sort of bookmark(favorite) plus I'd never have to wonder where that really cool picture came from

is it possible to use a firefox extension to do this?

come to think of it, I think it would be nice if all files had this sort of self-contained history... thanks for comments

As of now, that info is source-dependent. For myself, it would be nice to have a URI associated with a photo to know where to look again for its home.

this idea has come up before..
there are tools for saving notes with files.
and there are tools that can auto detect when a new file is created in a certain directory.

i'd love to see someone prepare a list or even a full review of such programs.

I found this also... why this concept is so allusive?

perhaps you could compare this to ID3 tags with MP3's - wonderful if used properly, terrible if not (not all music is Blues)...

oh, well...

If you're running XP (can't remember if it's in 2k as well), you can right-click->properties on any file, and add info on the "summary" tab. If it's not available in Win2k, it shouldn't be hard to add - the NTFS filesystem supports 'alternate file streams' that are perfect for this kind of info.

Maybe just more people care about tagging their music than their images?
